Zephaniah
Zephaniah Summary
The Book of Zephaniah was alleged written by the prophet Zephaniah, whose lineage is: “Zephaniah son of Cushi son of Gedaliah son of Amariah son of Hezekiah, in the days of King Josiah son of Amon of Judah.” It is most likely that the book of the prophet Zephaniah comes from a time after the rule of King Josiah.
The prophetic book’s title means, ”the Lord conceals,” or “the Lord protects.” In the Christian Old Testament, the book is divided into three separate chapters. Within these chapters, Zephaniah incorporated a number of common prophetic themes. Zephaniah includes one of the most vivid descriptions in the prophetic literature of God’s wrath. Also within the book is a proclamation of a restoration for those who survive the “Great Day of the Lord.”
