7-Year-Old Who Went Viral With 'Let It Go' In Bomb Shelter Sings The Ukranian National Anthem

Only in a world where circumstances sometimes change in an instant is it possible for a precious 7-year-old to sing “Let If Go” in a bomb shelter and find herself singing her country’s national anthem on a concert stage within a month’s time! But, that is our world, and that is exactly what happened to Amelia Anisovych!

Amelia is one of the 3.5 million refugees that have now left Ukraine following the invasion of Russia. Watch here Amelia’s two beautiful, but starkly different performances.

In the first, introduced by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Amelia sings at the invitation of a woman named Marta Smekhova, who had visited the shelter to help decorate it. Though we don’t see a lot of the surroundings, it does look cluttered with benches and desks and people. Perhaps, a bit of decorating was in order.

Amelia’s mother gave Marta permission to record her daughter as she sang “Let It Go” from the Disney movie Frozen. Amelia sings as if nothing is wrong because she loves to sing. But, for those watching in the shelter and half a world away, there is a combination of emotions.

While Amelia’s sweet voice combined with the lyrics of the song are a light in the darkness, they also illuminate the sadness so many feel for the Ukrainian people.

Here are a few lines from the song that Princess Elsa belts out in Frozen.

Let it go, let it go
You'll never see me cry
Here I stand and here I stay
Let the storm rage on

Marta commented, “From the first word in the [bomb shelter] came complete silence... everyone put their business aside and listen[ed] to a song by this girl who was just beaming light... even men couldn't hold back the tears.”

Watch as Amelia finishes. She’s unsure what the reaction will be, but the cheers and applause bring this brave little princess great happiness. She covers her smile as if embarrassed, having no idea just how many people will hear her sing!

Marta posted the video to social media, and it went viral. Affecting and poignant, Amelia’s song caused organizers of the “Together for Ukraine” charity concert to ask Amelia to sing “Glory and Freedom of Ukraine Has Not Yet Perished,” which is also known as “The State Anthem of Ukraine.” The song was designated as Ukraine’s national anthem in 2003.

Here are a couple of lines of lyrics from that song.

Ukraine is not yet dead, nor its glory and freedom,
Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians.

Watch as Amelia, now with her hair fixed into two braids and wearing the embroidered dress that is the custom of Ukraine, sings to a crowd of thousands at a giant stadium in Lodz, Poland. She sings confidently and without reservation, just as she did back in Kyiv.

Again, as she finished her performance, she looks expectantly at the audience, not knowing how they will respond. Of course, they are moved by this little girl with an angelic voice and indomitable spirit. They applaud, and Amelia beams and takes a bow!

Amelia told Marta that she wanted to be a singer one day. One day came much sooner than Amelia could have ever expected. Hopefully, something will change overnight or next week.

Hopefully, peace will be restored to Ukraine and the families there can be reunited, sleeping safe and sound once again.

“Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” 1 Timothy 2:2
