In this episode of The Walk podcast, Joshua Swanson, Editor-in-Chief of Worship Leader Magazine, sits down with Emily Lindquist, a worship pastor at Church of the City in New York. Emily shares her journey of leading worship, beginning from her childhood and growing into her current role. She reflects on the tension between worshiping and leading, and how the Book of Revelation has radically transformed her approach to both.
Emily delves into her experience in the Church of the City prayer room, where she learned to let go of the pressure to control the room and instead focus on worshiping Jesus. Through her study of Revelation, she highlights the unified worship happening around the throne of God and the importance of pointing people toward Jesus—the true leader of worship.
Tune in as Emily shares practical wisdom for worship leaders, including how to cultivate a personal fascination with Jesus and why every believer, not just those on stage, is called to be a worshiper. If you've ever felt the weight of leading worship or struggled to find balance between leading and worshiping, this episode will be an encouraging and refreshing reminder to fix your eyes on the Lamb.
Don’t miss Emily’s heartfelt reflections and a special closing prayer to refuel your passion for worship.

Who is Emily Lindquist?
Emily Lindquist is a worship pastor, singer-songwriter, and dedicated mentor to worship leaders. Originally from Southern California, Emily’s musical journey began at the age of five with piano lessons and continued with rigorous training as a classical vocalist. While studying music in college, Emily discovered her true calling—leading worship. Instead of rehearsing arias, she found herself in practice rooms singing worship songs, realizing her heart belonged to ministry and leading people into the presence of Jesus.
From her early years of leading worship in fifth grade, Emily developed a passion for seeing the Church respond to the beauty and glory of God through worship. Today, she serves as the Worship Arts Pastor at Church of the City in New York, where she lives in Manhattan with her husband, Matt. Her life and ministry are centered on cultivating a lifestyle of worship, where her experience and excellence serve as a powerful foundation for leading others into deeper encounters with God.
Emily’s heart beats for purity in worship and raising up the next generation of worshipers. Through mentoring worship leaders around the world, she inspires others to love and glorify Jesus. Her music, especially songs like Christ Is All, captures the heart cry of believers longing for Jesus and His return. Emily's legacy is one of faith, devotion, and a deep desire to see the global Church united in worship.
