We long for pain-free, grief-free days. Days that are filled with only good things.

The problem is - those days never seem to come. There is always pain, death, and destruction. The effects of sin have left their mark on our world and our lives.

It can be easy to lose hope, especially when we read the news. Will it ever end?

Yes, it will. Revelation 21 tells the end of the story – or rather, the new beginning. A day of restoration. A day when the enemy is finally defeated. There is no more death, mourning, crying, or pain. The old order of things will pass away.

As you meditate on this hope-filled passage, allow the Lord to help you notice what he has for you in these words. Once you’ve listened to this Scripture Meditation podcast, don’t miss the bonus conversation with Scot McKnight on his book Revelation for the Rest of Us. (Podcast releases 8/2/23). We talk about all things Revelation - including how Scot believes Revelation should be read.

The full meditation text is as follows:

Revelation 21:1-4, NIV

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
