7 Bible Quotes For Dating Couples to Study

Any relationship that is built on the foundation of God’s word offers a great opportunity for growth. Many Christian couples struggle in their relationships because they forget the core principles of godliness, purity, and unconditional love that is modeled in scripture. If two believers are in a relationship, it would help for them to study the following 7 Bible quotes:

Love one another

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34).

When couples really love each other, they want the best for each other in all things. True love isn’t a selfish act—rather it’s the unconditional love that flows from the Spirit of God into their relationship. Physical attraction is trumped by the pure love of God that couples can show one another. True love is willing to wait and patiently allow the relationship to grow in God’s timing.

Revere holiness and purity

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy” (1Peter 1:15-16).

Holiness is setting a greater standard than that of the flesh or the world. It’s a choice to be set apart as a couple for God’s purposes. By choosing holiness instead of fulfilling the desires of the flesh, couples are raising the bar and allowing God to bless them in ways they never could’ve imagined. Holiness gives a relationship a chance to grow in spiritual depth and encourages a stronger faith walk as a couple.

Respect each other

“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold” (Proverbs 22:1).

Respecting each other’s boundaries, thoughts, and personalities gives a couple the ability to humble themselves individually. By doing so there’s opportunity for the relationship to mature past mere emotions and feelings. Respect is given to the other person as they demonstrate integrity, strong moral character, and complete devotion to God.

Encourage each other to grow spiritually

“We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing” (2 Thessalonians 1:3).

It’s an awesome feeling of freedom when couples encourage one another to grow spiritually. This signifies a greater maturity in the relationship that will only strengthen it. The couple could be at a different level of spirituality and yet still help each other grow with times of prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers.

Serve others in the church and community

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24).

Serving in ministry as a couple brings to light the different spiritual gifts and how they work together in service. The service can be a united effort as a couple to continue to grow in their relationship. Being involved in ministry as a dating couple also gives opportunity for mentor relationships with other older couples in the church.

Pray for each other and for others

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (Ephesians 6:18).

Dating couples who pray together for each other and others will experience a greater closeness spiritually. Listening to each other praying gives an indication of the comfort level in speaking to God with requests and thanksgiving. When the Lord answers the dating couple’s prayer, there is a greater sense of confidence in approaching God together.

Strengthen one another’s faith

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17).

Every day there are opportunities for the faith of couples to falter. However when there is continued encouragement to grow and be stretched in the faith—dating couples will find their time together richer and more drawn towards Christ. Words of edification can strengthen each other’s faith so that in times of trials and discouragement there is something to hold on to.

Date with Confidence

There are many pitfalls to Christian dating couples if they don’t make the Word of God of great importance and focus in their relationship. The measuring stick of how great the relationship rises or falls isn’t based on worldly advice, Satan’s suggestions, or carnal desires. The Bible offers fail-proof advice for any dating couple who wants their relationship to bring glory and honor to God.
