10 Faith Songs to Teach Children

One of the best ways to teach children about Jesus is to teach them faith songs. Some are just fun for the catchy little tune, while others are sung complete with actions. Here are just 10 faith songs to teach children, I have also included the actions that I remember teaching many children, including my own.

Deep and Wide

This is not an action song, however the way it is sung is by replacing words little by little with humming until you get all the way through the song humming the entire tune. Take a look

1st time:

Deep and wide

Deep and wide

There's a fountain flowing

Deep and wide

Deep and wide

Deep and wide

There's a fountain flowing

Deep and wide.

2nd time:

(Hmm) and wide

(Hmm) and wide

There's a fountain flowing

(Hmm) and wide

(Hmm) and wide

(Hmm) and wide

There's a fountain flowing

(Hmm)and wide.

3rd time:

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

There's a fountain flowing

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

There's a fountain flowing

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

3rd time:

There's a (HmmHmm) flowing

(Hmm) and (Hmm)

There's a (HmmHmm) (Hmm)

Father Abraham

This song is sung seven times, each time adding another action. The arms are bent up at the elbows and the feet are lifted as if marching.Take a look:

Father Abraham had many sons

Many sons had father Abraham

I am one of them, and so are you

So let's just praise the Lord.

House on the Rock. Right hand

2nd time add Left arm

3rd time add Right leg

4th time add Left leg

5th time add Chin up

6th time add Turn around

7th time add SIT DOWN!

I'm In the Lord's Army

This is another action song. Be sure there is plenty of room between the kids when you sing this one so when they “fly o'er the enemy” they don't hit each other with their wings.

I may never march in the infantry (march)

Ride in the cavalry (pretend you’re riding a horse)

Shoot the artillery (clap hands together and move one hand into the air like a missile)

I may never fly o’er the enemy (fly like a bird)

But I’m in the Lord’s army (point to self and then up to God)

I’m in the Lord’s army, yes, sir! (salute)

I’m in the Lord’s army, yes, sir!

I may never march in the infantry

Ride in the cavalry

Shoot the artillery

I may never fly o’er the enemy

But I’m in the Lord’s army, yes, sir!

Jesus Love Me

This is a song that was written many years ago that remains to be one of the first songs parents teach their children.

Jesus loves me this I know

For the Bible tells me so

Little ones to Him belong

They are weak but He is strong

Yes Jesus loves me

Yes Jesus loves me

Yes Jesus loves me

The Bible tells me so

Jesus Love the Little Children

In this simple children's song of faith we can teach children the Bible truth that “... Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34 KJV)

Jesus loves the little children

All the children of the world

Red and yellow black and white

They are precious in His sight

Jesus loves the little children of the world

Joy Joy Joy (Down in My Heart)

In this song the children sing how happy they are because of the joy that they have “down in my heart”. There can be several verses to this song but my two favorite are:

I've got that joy joy joy joy

Down in my heart

Down in my heart

Down in my heart

I've got that joy joy joy joy

Down in my heart

Down in my heart to stay

And I'm so happy

So very happy

I've got the love of Jesus in my heart

And I'm so happy so very happy

I've got the love of Jesus in my heart

I've got the peace that passes understanding

Down in my heart

Down in my heart

Down in my heart

I've got the peace that passes understanding

Down in my heart

Down in my heart to stay

My God is So Big

This song teaches children about the almighty power of God. Watch the video below to learn the actions:

My God is so great, so strong and so mighty!

There’s nothing my God cannot do!

My God is so great, so strong and so mighty!

There’s nothing my God cannot do!

The mountains are His, the rivers are His;

The stars are His handiwork, too,

My God is so great, so strong and so mighty!

There’s nothing my God cannot do!

There’s nothing my God cannot do!

There’s nothing my God cannot do!

FOR YOU!

Rise and Shine (Arky Arky)

This is a fun song to teach children the true Bible story of Noah and the Ark. It tells of Noah's faith in the Lord when he built the “Arky Arky” even though it had never rained before. I learned this one as a child. Here are a couple of my favorite verses:

The Lord told Noah

There's gonna be a floody floody

The Lord told Noah

There's gonna be a floody floody

Get those children out of the muddy muddy

Children of the Lord

So rise and shine and give God the glory glory

Rise and shine and give God the glory glory

Rise and shine and give God the glory glory

Children of the Lord

The Lord told Noah

To build Him an arky arky

Lord told Noah

To build Him an arky arky

Build it out of gopher barky barky

Children of the Lord

The B-I-B-L-E

This is another one of the first songs you can teach to children. You spell out the word Bible as you sing.

The B-I-B-L-E

Yes, that's the book for me

I stand alone on the Word of God

The B-I-B-L-E

I could go on and on with more songs for you and, in fact, I have at least 10 other songs on my list. Can you share some more?
