Bible Verses about Peace
Here are 10 encouraging Bible verses that mention peace that I hope give you peace of mind and heart.
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
When Jesus gives you something, it is permanent, like eternal life (John 3:16) so when Jesus told the troubled disciples that He would leave them His peace, it wouldn’t be anything like the peace that the world offers. The peace of the world never lasts; His peace would be an everlasting possession of theirs. Jesus wanted to give them peace because He knew they had troubled hearts and were afraid because He had told them that He was going away and previously He said that they are going to take, arrest, and kill the Son of Man.
Romans 5:1 “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This is a great memory verse for me because when I witness to people about the wrath of God abiding on those who reject belief in Christ (John 3:36b) they can have the peace of God through Jesus Christ’s atoning work at Calvary. You can never have the peace of God until you are first at peace with God and God placed His holy, righteous indignation or wrath upon Jesus so that we wouldn’t have to bear it for all time (Rev 20:12-15).
Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Isaiah writes more about peace than any other author of the Bible (27 times) because much of His writing looks forward to the reign of Christ on earth when there will finally be a settled and lasting peace. In the meantime, God tells us that He will keep us in the perfect peace of God if our mind is stayed or fixed upon Him. That’s because we can trust God. A trust in God gives us the peace of God.
Psalm 4:8 “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
The Book of Psalms rank second in the Bible in mentioning peace (23 times). If you’re not feeling much peace these days, then sit down and bathe in the Book of Psalms and see how the peace of God will gently sweep over you like a warm bath. Read a chapter in psalms just before you go to bed and I would imagine you too can “lie down and sleep” and feel like you’re dwelling in safety.
Hebrews 13:20-21 “Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
You remember what Romans 5:1 said that if we’ve been justified by Christ’s death then we have the peace of God and if that’s true with you, and I pray it is, then I want you to know that this was the very same peace that brought the Lord Jesus from the dead. This same peace makes our resurrection into a glorified body possible.
James 3:17-18 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
Notice the source of this peace; it isn’t from ourselves but from above, just like godly wisdom is. A harvest of the righteousness that we can have in Christ (2nd Cor 5:2), if sown in peace will yield peace at harvest time. Who doesn’t want to harvest a field full of peace?
Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
There are those that break the peace and those who make the peace so which do you think Jesus desires us to be? If you are a peacemaker then you are going to be called a son or daughter of God. If you are a peace breaker then you could well be called a child of the Devil. It’s your choice.
Proverbs 16:7 “When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
Every Christian probably has enemies and certainly is an enemy of the Devil and his demons but if the way in which you live pleases God, He may allow even your enemies to be at peace with you. This is no guarantee of a life free from persecution but it is a way to make peace in your life more likely. Please the Lord and have more peace, even among your enemies. Live in such a way that you please God and you will for sure be at peace with God.
Second Corinthians 13:11 “Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”
Paul is admonishing the church at Corinth to comfort one another and be in agreement with one another and mainly, to live in peace with one another. If you are willing to do these things then the love of God and God’s “peace will be with you.” Surely you want that, don’t you?
Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
If you think of the peace of God as the sentry or guard of your mind then this peace will act to protect and keep your hearts and your minds. This kind of peace is not just beyond the description of words, it surpasses all human understanding, however, the good news is that we don’t have to understand it completely to have it fully.
Peace Bible Verses: Conclusion
If you have never been born again (John 3:3, 7) then you can never have the peace of God because you are not at peace with God, and only when you have repented and trusted in Him can you have the peace of God and be at peace with God. That is my prayer for all who read this so that you might be spared from the coming wrath of God (Rev 20:12-15) that comes after death with the judgment (Heb 9:27).
