Becoming A Mom

At 25, Lacey decided to register to become an adoptive mother.
"Marriage wasn't anywhere on the horizon for me at that point, so I kind of looked at my life and decided that was okay and that I didn't need marriage," she says. "But I knew that if I wasn't a mom, I would regret it my whole life."
Just a short while later, Lacey received an emergency call to help foster four sisters -- Sophia, Natalie, Melanie and Kaylee. Before the social worker could even finish explaining the situation, Lacey had replied with a resounding, "YES!" Farewell For Now

After nine months together, the birth mother regained custody of the girls and Lea. It was heartbreaking for Lacey, who'd fallen in love with the sisters. Fortunately the birth mother allowed her and her parents to stay involved in the girls' lives, allowing them to come for visits and babysit. And perhaps that's because God was working on her heart as well! She asked if Lacey would be willing to adopt all five sisters, including little Lea. She'd been mulling it over for some time, but had worried that Lacey and her family might judge her.
"I told her, 'You're giving them more than I could. I couldn't give them up and you're loving them more than yourself and that's big and a lot of people wouldn't do that,'" Lacey recalls.

And Then There Were Six

Over the next year, Lacey worked to finalize the adoption. And in that time, the birth mother discovered she was pregnant. Again, Lacey agreed to adopt without hesitation.
"This was my children's sibling, so it wasn't even a question for me to take her in too," says Lacey. "Cecily officially joined the family in March of 2015."
And there's no question the six sisters are exactly where they are supposed to be!
"They attached to Lacey so quickly," Lacey's mom explains. "They idolize their mother, and Lacey is constantly looking for ways to help shape them into the best humans they can be."
Lacey's life is now "a crazy whirlwind of frilly dresses and Frozen." But it's also so incredibly full of love!
"They bring me so much joy, and chaos, but life would be so empty and bland and boring without them," Lacey says. "It's an honor to be their mother, they melt my heart."
