Ungrateful Bride Shames Wedding Guest's Gift Online, But 'Cheap' Comment Backfires

My parents used to say that gratitude would take me a long way in life. They taught me to thank everyone--the Lord, my teachers, my bus driver, my boss, and all the supportive people I encounter. Sadly, not everyone learns that lesson. An ungrateful bride shames her wedding guest’s gift online, but the “cheap” comment backfires.

Weddings are days for great celebration. Two people, a man and a woman, come together to form a covenant in front of God. They bind themselves together and become one.

“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)

One way that people often celebrate these great occasions is by bringing a gift for the newlywed couple. The bride and groom often create a registry, an online listing of items they would like either for practical use because they need it, or simply because they like it.

Again, gratitude can take you a long way in your relationships.

For this particular wedding in 2013, a guest decided to give a more personalized gift than the items found on the registry. She purchased a basket and decked it out with taste treats and sweets, including marshmallows and candy.

To make the gift even nicer, there was an accompanying card that read, "Life is delicious — enjoy."

The gifter was Kathy Mason, and the recipient was Laura. Instead of sharing words of gratitude for the creative gift, Laura expressed words of disappointment.

"I'm not sure if it's the first wedding you have been to, but for your next wedding… people give envelopes. I lost out on $200 covering you and your date's plate... and got fluffy whip and sour patch kids in return...Just a heads-up for the future."

The story of the ungrateful bride went viral on the social site Reddit where the story was mentioned in one of their communities. Commenters weighed in defending the gifter, commenting that the bride’s response was rude and out of place. Several people pointed out that assembling gift baskets can get quite pricey!

Hopefully, the online community’s support made the gift-giver feel better. And perhaps the ungrateful bride learned a lesson, too!
