The Easter season is almost here, and you can’t think about this holiday without thinking about praising and worshiping Jesus. To Christians worldwide, Easter is the day to celebrate Jesus' resurrection when he died and rose again three days later. He died for our sins so that we can live with him in paradise forever.
Music is a beautiful way of helping us celebrate Jesus, worship him, and remember all he has done. Through modern songs or older hymns, music can bring us closer to God. And to one another. Enjoy this list of these top Easter songs for worship and praise.
‘Because He Lives’ by Matt Maher brings us the lyrics:
“I was dead in the grave
I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name
He rolled the stone away”
A reminder of what Jesus did for us. A reminder of who we are to Jesus. The chorus then repeats, “Because He lives (He lives)” which is another reminder of the fact that he rose again and lives within us. A beautiful way to worship the meaning of Easter.
‘Forever (We Sing Hallelujah)’ by Kari Jobe & Cody Carnes is a song all about Easter. The lyrics talk about Jesus dying on the cross, and what happened when he rose again.
“The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His perfect love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting
Our resurrected King
Has rendered you defeated”
Towards the end of the song we hear, “We sing Hallelujah” over and over as a reminder of our thankfulness for what he has done. That Jesus has risen and is alive today.
Remembering what Jesus did when he died and rose again, and then rejoicing and praising him for it is what ‘O Praise The Name (Anastasis)’ by Hillsong Worship is all about. The lyrics share about the death and resurrection:
“I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me
I see His wounds, His hands, His feet
My Saviour on that cursed tree”
Then the song finishes with praising God as a way to worship and honor him.
‘Resurrecting’ by Elevation Worship gives us a picture of the power of the resurrection. Lyrics such as:
“In Your name I come alive
To declare Your victory
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me”
remind us that Jesus has been resurrected and is also working in us because of it. That His name truly means something to us, and is powerful. And should be worshiped.
Hope is a huge part of Easter. Jesus died, but rose again, giving us eternal hope that he is there, and will always be. ‘Living Hope’ by Phil Wickham is a reminder that Jesus Christ is our hope.
With lyrics such as:
“Jesus Christ, my living hope
Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope”
we are reminded of the hope he gives us. That death does not have a grip on us anymore, and that he is the one that has set us free.
‘Thank You Jesus for the Blood’ by Charity Gayle focuses on who we are as humans, and what Jesus did to save us.
With lyrics such as:
“Thank You Jesus, for the blood applied
Thank You Jesus, it has washed me white
Thank You Jesus, You have saved my life
Brought me from the darkness into glorious light”
we are reminded of his great power, how he has saved us, and how we can worship him in return. It is a reminder on Easter that Jesus came to wash away our sins and make us clean again.
This Easter season it is important to reminder what the holiday is all about, and to worship the one who died and rose again, to save us.
