If you watch movies or shows on Netflix, you probably spend a lot of time scrolling through pages of shows that are on your “List” or “Recommended”. There are so many options to choose from! Instead of spending 20 minutes looking for a clean family drama, take a look at this list of the top 10 family drama movies on Netflix!

#10. The Brooke Ellison Story (2004)

The Brooke Ellison Story is very inspirational! Brooke (played by Lacey Chabert) was young when she was hit by a car and critically injured. She survived, but became paralyzed from the neck down. Her family pulled her through and her mother especially stayed by her side. The movie follows Brooke’s story and how she and her family helped her graduate from Harvard University.

#9. An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars (2012)

McKenna (played by Jade Pettyjohn) is an all-American girl in the fourth grade that is passionate about gymnastics. Her grades are starting to slip up, but she promises to work harder. The problem is that she is having a hard time comprehending what she is reading. Her parents force her to get a tutor until she can overcome this minor learning problem and McKenna is embarrassed. Young girls will relate to this story and learn why it’s important to listen to their parents and be honest with their friends.

#8. The 5th Quarter (2010)

Jon Abbate is a tremendous football player at Wake Forest, but he loses his sense of who he is after his 15 year old brother Luke dies in a car accident. Luke played football in high school and always wore jersey number five. Jon’s coach helps him through a rough emotional season and his family attends every game and slowly finds his inspiration. As the season progresses, Wake Forest breaks records and ends up having the best season in school history. If you love inspirational sports movies, you will love this one.

#7. Flick Country Pride (2012)

Teenager Kelly and her mom Lindy have been struggling to keep their horse stable in operation since the death of Kelly’s father. Lindy hires Toby (played by Clint Black) to get things back on track and he brings along his horse Flicka. Kelly and Flicka become close and begin training to race in an upcoming competition. Horse-lovers will love this heartwarming story of healing and renewal.

#6. Little Red Wagon (2012)

Zach is only eight years old, but he has an extremely big heart for helping others. Hurricane Charley has devastated the town he lives in and he decides to pull a red wagon full of supplies to help children in need. He wants to start a charity, but he must first overcome the hurdles of politics and bring his family back together. Zach’s mother is busy trying to hold everything together and simply doesn’t want to support Zack and his older sister is extremely resentful of him.

#5. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009)

Richard Gere stars as Professor Parker Wilson who falls in love with an orphan dog he names Hachi that he found wandering around the train station. Parker’s wife does not like dogs, but she loves how happy Hachi makes her husband. The bond Hachi and Parker form is incredible and they look out for one another – especially Hachi for Parker. Each day Hachi follows Parker to the train station and then waits for him to return from work. This is a touching story that animal lovers will appreciate.

#4. The Magic of Belle Isle (2012)

Monty Wildhorn (played by Morgan Freeman) is a successful novelist, but is depressed and has sworn off writing. His nephew pushes him to spend the summer in Belle Isle where he will be left alone and hopefully find his sense of purpose again. Charlotte O’Neil lives next door with her three daughters. She is trying to settle into a new life newly divorced and it’s hard on the girls. Living close together, Monty is often interrupted by his neighbors and ends up forming a close relationship with them and becomes motivated to write again. 

#3. Last Ounce of Courage (2012)

Thomas Revere is heading to war and leaving his young, pregnant wife. He can’t wait to come back home, but never gets the opportunity. His father, Bob Revere, let his spirit to fight for what’s right die with his son. Around 13 years later, his daughter-in-law and grandson move back home and his grandson begins asking questions about what his father died for. This lights a fire in Bob and he begins bringing Christmas back to his town as the mayor. Rights organizations and the media keep flaunting legal terms and threats around, but he will not be stopped.

#2. WWJDII The Woodcarver (2012)

Matthew Stevenson is a troubled teen that is acting out because of the stress at home with his parents heading to divorce. He vandalizes the church and meets the woodcarver who originally carved the wood to build the church as he is cleaning up his mess. Instead of throwing him out, Ernest invites Matthew into his woodshop and regains his purpose in life for the first time since his wife died.

Gabby Douglas made headlines at the 2012 London Olympics winning gold medals in the team and individual all-around gymnastics competitions. The Gabby Douglas Story is an inspiring movie that shows how much her family sacrificed so she could pursue her dream. She nearly gave it up, but relied on her family and faith to find the strength and courage to keep fighting for it. This is a wonderful movie for the whole family.
