Story Behind The Powerful Hymn

John Newton penned this time-honored hymn. John wrote the song as a way of giving thanks to the Lord after He granted him a new life.

As a sailor, John was known for his crude language and actions. But one day, John found himself caught in the middle of a terrible storm.

After spending hours at the helm of the ship, John’s thoughts began to turn to God. After surviving the weather, John started his life as a Christian and dedicated himself to serving our Father. The touching words of ‘Amazing Grace’ were inspired by this revelation.

“Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

T'was blind but now I see

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear

And Grace, my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed”

In 2012, Christian artist Natalie Grant teamed up with The Tenors to perform Amazing Grace. Their voices combine perfectly to belt out the many wonders of our King.

As we go through difficult times, the words of ‘Amazing Grace’ offer us comfort and peace that the Lord is always with us. Let us lift up His Name and say amen!
