Enjoy these 10 Best Sara Groves Songs.
1. I’ve Been Here Before (Floodplain)
Waiting, wishing, thirsty, angry are words used in the first half of this heartfelt song.
Honey, feast, still waters are words used as the song takes a turn. This song shares the hard realities of life and the hope that can come even in the middle of hard times through the hand of grace. The hand that offers freedom.
“The hand of grace reaches down to me, a voice inside says that I can be free.” ~Sara Groves
2. Fireflies and Songs (Fireflies and Songs)
Sara briefly takes us back to our childhood when we played with music boxes and happily searched for fireflies in the woods. She contrasts this to the struggles in marriage. How often do we tear the music box apart while trying to find our song and get lost in the wood searching for the firefly? Fireflies and Songs is a simple yet beautiful picture of reality and the peace that comes when the fight is over.
“Now we're standing in the kitchen, all pretense is gone. You kiss me on the shoulder. Fireflies and songs.” ~Sara Groves
3. When The Saints (Tell Me What You Know)
This song offers us so much comfort and courage in our spiritual battle. We are reminded of the Saints who have paved the faith path before us. Paul and Silas imprisoned, Moses at the hand of Pharaoh’s court, the slave walking the railroad, the missionary at the end of a spear, the girl huddled on the brothel floor... they have fought their battles and have proven faithful. What a privilege to get to march to the throne of God along with these Saints.
“But when I think of all who've gone before and lived a faithful life, their courage compels me.” ~Sara Groves
4. Second Guess Girl (Floodplain)
The upbeat musical styling of this tune contrasts itself to the complexity of living in a world flooded with injustice. With the simple desire to love our sisters and brothers, all of the needs to be met are overwhelming. It’s challenging to figure out what the best things to do are which makes it so easy to be a Second Guess Girl.
“It’s a hard hard world for a second guess girl. I try to take it in and it leaves me spinning, trying to love my sister and brother.” ~Sara Groves
5. Miracle (Invisible Empires)
No one ever said relationships are easy. There is such hope in knowing that if we lay down our arms, see what we need to see, hear what we need to hear, that we can heal where we need to heal. We can partake in God’s loving and redemptive work. We can experience a miracle and we can be a miracle.
“Oh it’s a mystery, love is a mystery
Oh it's a miracle, it's a miracle
Let's be a miracle.” ~Sara Groves
6. Eyes on the Prize (Invisible Empires)
The beginning of this song is reminiscent of a slave’s work song of their hope for freedom. The stories of Paul and Silas being in jail and being freed as the chains miraculously fell. We are encouraged to hold on. Freedom will come!
“Freedom's name is mighty sweet
And one day soon we are gonna meet
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on.” ~Sara Groves
7. I Saw What I Saw (Tell Me What You Know)
What we have seen cannot be unseen. What we have heard cannot be unheard. The injustice that we find along the way, the people we encounter who are hurting cause us to face our fears, to feel their pain and do something. What we have seen and heard challenge us to hold what we have loosely. If we know the One who is love we will be compelled to share love.
“Your courage asks me what I'm afraid of and what I know of love.” ~Sara Groves
8. The Word (Conversations)
In a culture of all things disposable, Sara reminds us that God’s Word was, is and will be. As our trends, ideas and needs are so often tailored to fit what brings us pleasure or makes us feel good, the truth from the Word is what was truth in the beginning and the truth will forever remain.
“People are getting fit for Truth like they're buying a new tailored suit.” ~Sara Groves
9. Floodplain (Floodplain)
The heart that feels deeply is in danger of being flooded. The heart that loves deeply is in danger of sinking. The heart that is built on the floodplain is also closer to life. The heart that is built on the floodplain depends more on God’s provision. Perhaps this is a worthwhile trade off.
“Closer to the life and the ebb and flow
Closer to the edge of I don’t know
Closer to Lord please send a boat.” ~Sara Groves
10. Open My Hands (Invisible Empires)
As our Father holds no good thing from us, we need only to open our hands and freely receive. His love heals the broken. His fountain quenches thirst. His faithfulness to give good things is without measure. Open your hands. Open your heart. Receive all that He offers.
“I will open my hands, will open my heart
I am nodding my head with an emphatic yes
To all that You have for me.” ~Sara Groves
