Something Shiny Catches Fishermen's Attention and Next Comes an Unbelievable Miracle Rescue

Two men were searching for a fishing hole in Northwest, Indiana, spotted something shiny, and discovered a man stuck in a truck for 6 long days.

The day after Christmas turned out to be a day those two men would never forget. Mario Garcia and his son-in-law Nivardo Delatorre discovered a mangled truck when out looking for fishing holes. They investigated the area after spotting something shiny in the distance. It was Matthew R. Reum.

Matthew is a 27-year old welder from Mishawaka, Indiana and crashed off the road after he swerved to avoid a deer. He was paralyzed in his seat and was unable to reach his phone to call for help.

Surviving For Six Days By Drinking Rain Water

Matthew was able to survive by drinking rainwater for those six days. However, if Garcia and his son-in-law had not found him when they did, he might not have made it because of his injuries.

“It’s a miracle that he’s alive in this weather,” said Indiana State Police Sgt. Glen Fifield. Temps in the area had reached a low of 29 degrees, and it was truly a miracle that he was able to endure and survive that.

The Road to Recovery

On January 4th, Matthew posted on Facebook. He spoke about how he lost his leg with an above knee amputation, has a broken ankle, and a broken hand. Despite all of that, he  shared some kind words about the situation, "It's been a week and a day since I was rescued and for that I am beyond happy. This last week and a half I've had and I have seen more love more just random acts of kindness."

It is heartwarming to see people offering their support to this young man. He has been through quite the ordeal. Knowing people are out there supporting him has to be a big comfort on his road to recovery.

The road to recovery might be long overall, however finding Matthew when they did was a gift from God. "We were put there for a reason," Nivardo Delatorre said. And he is absolutely correct in that because they were at the right place at the right time.
