Sometimes it's the little things in life that leave the biggest impression. Like when a Massachusetts woman witnessed a young man stepping up to help an elderly man ride an escalator. That one simple act of kindness touched her deeply!
Paula Picard was doing some shopping at her local mall in Massachusetts when she came up to the escalator. There, an elderly man had stopped, clearly unsure about getting on.
A few people started gathering, waiting for the nervous man to move so they could get on the escalator. But one young man found it in his heart to have compassion.
"This young man offered the simplest kindness: an out-reached arm and a 'can I help you on, sir?'" Paula writes.
That's when the elderly man explained why he was so nervous. Apparently he'd gotten stuck on an escalator once before. So now, he was always a bit nervous about getting on.

The kind stranger reassured the man, and together, arm-in-arm, they stepped onto the escalator.
"A little redemption for the suffering human soul," Paula said of watching the young man help the elderly man ride an escalator.
Paula chose to share the special moment on Facebook because she points out how often the news focuses on heartache and racial division. But here, "one person simply helped another."
"I wanted to hug both of them," she wrote. "Whoever this young man is, your family raised you right! Thank you!"
And it would seem that Paula's not the only one looking to find the good in this broken world. Her heartwarming post took off, with more than 186,000 shares, nearly 400,000 reactions and over 23,000 comments!
With all the hurt out there, never underestimate the power of simple kindness. No matter how big or small, each act of kindness matters. As Paula writes in her post, keep looking for the silver linings!
