Singer Amy Grant Opens up about Challenges She Still Faces Due to Her Bike Accident

Singer Amy Grant, 63, is back on tour after recovering from a bike accident where she hit a pothole in July of 2022 in Nashville, where she calls home.

Amy is known for her contemporary Christian and pop music popular in the 1980s and 1990s, with 'Baby, Baby' being one of her most popular songs.

Struggles After the Bike Accident

The bike accident caused a traumatic brain injury as well as memory loss. She told E! News, "I still have issues with my short-term memory loss." She also talked about if she would ever ride a bike again, "I don't know if I'll get back on a bike. There are so many great sports to enjoy."

What singer Amy Grant didn't know at the time of the bike accident was that she had a cyst growing in her throat. According to Newsner, the Cleaveland Clinic described Thyroglossal duct cysts (TDC,) which is what Amy had, is something you were born with. They are usually benign but can make it hard to eat and drink.

5-Hour Surgery

Amy had to have a 5-hour surgery to get rid of the cyst as it went into hypergrowth because of the injury. She also had to learn to sing again. Which we can imagine was quite the process.

They also asked her if she wanted a facelift during the surgery and she turned them down because she was going to be on stage in a few weeks. However, she does say that after the surgery, her neck was a little tighter. She seemed pretty happy about that.

Singer Amy Grant's Reasons For Touring

When it comes to her reasons for touring, the singer Amy Grant commented, "I don't get on stage because I need to hear applause. I've always loved creating spaces. And I do think that it feels like that continues to matter."

We are thankful to hear that Amy Grant is recovering well and that the bike accident wasn't worse than it was. We pray she can continue her recovery and enjoy creating a lot more in the future.
