Shaq's mother had a huge impact on his life. Now, in an interview with Jennifer Hudson, the former NBA star opens up about how his mom's example helped make him into the man he is today.
Shaq was dominant, essentially unstoppable on the basketball court. During his playing days, Shaq scored thousands of points, grabbed thousands of rebounds and snagged a handful of NBA titles. His fantastic play on the hardwood earned him legions of committed and adoring fans.

But while his playing days have ended, the NBA Hall of Famer has continued to win fans, specifically for his many kind and generous deeds. He commonly goes out of his way, unexpectedly blessing others by purchasing items for those others around him.
In an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Shaq mentioned the reason for his generosity and why he tries to do something good every day.
“My source of energy comes from one person: Dr. Lucille O’Neal,” Shaq said. “That’s my mother.”

He mentioned that he commonly tells young people about the example his mother set when he was a child.
“Like, when I’m having conversations with kids, they say, ‘How’s it feel to be rich?’ " he said. “I said, ‘My definition of being rich is different.’ My definition of being rich is growing up, watching a woman wake up, make our breakfast, iron our clothes, work all day, wear the same gear she wore, not yesterday, but the day before, mix it up, come home, cook our dinner and never complain.”
The former basketball player added that his mother was the perfect example of how to live life and help those around him.
“You know, I just try to do everything correctly for my mother,” Shaq said.

Shaq, with his generous and giving spirit and continuously kind acts, likely made his mother abundantly proud.
