Reese Witherspoon Says She Doesn't Fear Death And The Reason? Her Faith In God

Fear is natural and common. People have a fear of spiders, strangers, heights (me). Yet, we are not commanded to live in fear, quite the opposite in fact. Through the example of Jesus, we know that while we live, and will certainly die, we have nothing to fear about the afterlife. Reese Witherspoon gets this. Reese Witherspoon says she doesn’t fear death, and her reason? Her faith in God.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)

There are plenty of scripture passages that talk about good fear - fear of the Lord - and fear we shouldn’t have, the fear of death. Reese shared that her faith in God makes her comfortable with the thought of an afterlife. Her denominational faith is Episcopalian. Reese grew up going to church and singing in the choir. As an adult, she attends service twice a week.

Reese Witherspoon Shares About Her Christian Upbringing

Reese explained that she doesn’t share in the feelings of having “repressive experiences with religion,” from growing up in church. Today, many people who attended regularly as children, have pushed their faith aside in life. Not Reese. Her view of society is that we are all children of God, each bestowed with unique gifts.

Despite her confidence in salvation, Reese is still naturally hurt when experiencing the death of a loved one. In May of 2020, she lost friend and producer of Little Fires Everywhere, Lynn Shelton. Lynn was only 54 years old when she died.

Despite the hurt, Reese maintains her faith in the Lord. More amazing than her faith is her love of sharing it with others. In an America that sometimes seems to be ever-growing less religious, it’s wonderful when she and other Christian stars like Chris Pratt use their celebrity status to speak openly about their faith, giving a voice for the other Christians. They show us that we need not fear.
