First Photos Taken By James Webb Telescope Have Christian Leaders In Awe Of God's Power

NASA released the first photos taken by the James Webb Telescope and they are a beautiful demonstration of the incredible power and majesty of God!

NASA considers the James Webb telescope the "successor" to the Hubble Space Telescope, which was launched in the 1990s. The James Webb Space Telescope is capable of recording images never seen by the human eye. That's due in part because it is located above Earth's atmosphere, but also because of its massive size.

So, as NASA released the first full-color photos taken by the James Webb Telescope, it caused a lot of excitement. And Christians quickly pointed to the stunning images as a testament of God's "power" and "majesty."

"[This is] why we want to study the heavens, so we can observe the awesome glory of our God," said Rob Webb, an aerospace engineer with Answers in Genesis and a former NASA employee.

While the Hubble recorded images in visible (optical) light, the James Webb Telescope records images in the infrared spectrum. And according to NASA, this latter spectrum is where distant objects are located.

Amongst the first photos taken by the James Webb Telescope was an awe-inspiring image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723. Revealed in this one, small frame were thousands of galaxies. Within the image, NASA reported the "faintest objects ever observed in the infrared."

The image of the cluster, which is approximately 4.6 billion light-years from Earth, certainly stirred up plenty of admiration.

"The awesome, amazing images just continue to show the amazing works of our awesome God, of our awesome creator," Robb Webb pointed out.

Some like to point to space and all of the galaxies as proof against the existence of God. But, in fact, it's yet another example of God's wondrous power.

"God created the heavens and the earth – let's remember to base all of our thinking, from the very beginning, Genesis 1:1 without compromise," Robb went on to explain. He pointed to the sheer size of the universe as showing "the awesome power of our amazing God." And he went on to quote Psalm 19:1, which reads, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

Christian Leaders React To NASA Photos

Rob Webb was not the only Christian inspired by the stunning images. Rich Stearns, president emeritus of World Vision, remarked, "What an amazing reminder of the majesty and power of our Creator God! Wow!"

Ryan. N Danker, director of the John Wesley Institute, commented, "The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament showeth his handywork."

And we have to agree! The depths of space are practically unfathomable to us as humans. And so is the true depth of God's power.

As vast and limitless as space is, it's a powerful reminder that God created and knows all of it. He knows each star by name, just as He knows each one of us fully. Let that truth fill your heart today!

"He counts the number of the stars. He calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite." Psalm 147:4-5
