Son Saves For 9 Months and Surprises Mom By Paying Off Her Mortgage

One young man saved for nine months and then surprised his mom by paying off her mortgage.

A house is a major, often life-changing purchase. Everyone wants a place to call their own. That is part of the reason why home ownership is such an important, monumental step in life. Having a house provides a sense of security and stability.

Son Wanted To Repay His Mother For Everything What She Has Done For Him

But even after making a down payment, dealing with closing costs and finally moving into your house, it’s not yours yet. You may be living in it, but everyone who has bought a house knows about mortgage payments. Like every other bill, they can be a burden and of great concern some months when encountering one of life’s valleys or storms.

That is why what 32-year-old André Williams did for his mother, Tracy Gathers-Williams, 54, was so memorable and meaningful. André, after working and saving for several months, starting in December 2023, and encountering a handful of problems, still managed to pay off her mortgage, according to People.

In an interview with the outlet, André, a program manager at Microsoft, said he wanted to repay her for everything she has done for him.

"My mom has worked extremely hard, and I felt this would be the most meaningful gift I could give her," André said. "I’ve reached a level in my career where I’m proud and able to bless others. What better way to do that than to relieve her of her biggest expense?"

André Encountered Challenges And Trials Along The Way

However, André’s sweet, life-changing gift for his mother did not come without some speed bumps. First, he had to devise a way to get the proper paperwork from his mother without alerting her to what he was doing.  Then, he had his car stolen, his house robbed and moved from South Carolina to Houston, Texas.

But that is not all.

According to People, André, who also pays a mortgage for a house he owns in Atlanta, was forced to evict the people renting his Georgia home. He also pays rent for his place in Houston.

However, there was one last hurdle in André’s way, even after he had managed to pay off his mother’s mortgage: Hurricane Helene. Initially, he planned to go home and surprise his mother in person in September, but that was not the case. So, instead, he had to improvise and come up with another way.

Mom Immediately Broken Down In Tears After Learning About Her Son's Sweet Surprise

He finally let his sister in on the big surprise, letting her know he would send her a video informing his mother about the surprise. In return, he asked his sister to film his mother the moments she learned about André’s massive life-changing gift.

The video, posted on social media, captures Tracy immediately breaking down in tears upon hearing the news from her son.

Despite everything he went through, including all the trials and hardships, André was determined to do this for his mother. He said that despite everything along the way, he “had to make it happen.”

We Have The Ability To Impact Others Life In Big Ways

André’s kindness and love are an example of how we can significantly improve people’s lives.

"I think what I try to tell people is that you can do anything you set your mind to," André says. "Ordinary people can do extraordinary things for others every day. The comments from people who don’t know me, expressing their happiness for my mom and celebrating how she raised me, mean so much. If I had a choice, I would choose her over and over again because she raised me with so much love and care.”
