Hospital Staff Lines Up For ‘Walk of Respect’ Honoring Man's Sacrifice

Dustin Dedrick

It was too late for one, 53-year-old man in Idaho. But because of a choice he'd made, his death would help others live. So, the entire staff at St. Luke’s Hospital lined the hallway to honor his sacrifice with a 'Walk of Respect."

Many times heroes save lives by giving up their own. And sometimes it's through organ donation. These are the kind of individuals who value the opportunity to bring new life to someone else by agreeing to be on the organ donor list should something happen to them. And organ donors deserve every bit of honor and respect when their time comes for donating.

Honoring Sacrifice

So, medical staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in Idaho joined the family of one such organ donor in a touching moment of silence. And there wasn't a dry eye in the house as ICU Staffers lined the halls with family and friends for an organ donors' "Walk of Respect."

Thankfully, someone thought to hit record as speakers called "all available staff" to the fourth floor of St. Luke's. There, the personnel lined the hallway for an emotional processional honoring a 53-year-old donor.

As they wheeled the man toward the surgery, the folks lining the hall bowed their heads as a demonstration of their appreciation. The gentleman honored by the "Walk of Respect" moved into a surgical room where doctors took him off of life support. From there, they donated his much-needed organs, giving others life.

Seeing their loved ones in their final moments is a difficult time for most families. And it's not easy for the medical staff either. They usually interact with both the families losing a loved one, as well as those receiving the donor's organs.

The organs bring so much joy and hope to the families receiving them. But the staff also knows the donor's family and friends are facing the difficult task of saying goodbye to their loved one.

The opportunity to stand in silence for this final “walk” is their way of expressing gratitude for such a special selfless act and to show support for these families.

The opportunity to bless others in such a difficult time is one that should not be overlooked. From the medical staff supporting the families, to the friends, and the organ donors themselves, this is such a beautiful way to show love and concern for one another.
