Husband Buys Wife's Childhood Home As Old House to Renovate and the Results Are Stunning

Seeing the potential and possibility in someone or something means looking beyond the present situation or circumstances. It may not be easy to do. But one couple did just this as they renovated an old, rundown house.

Adam, 38, and 35-year-old Jessica Miller restore houses and flip them for a living. However, one of their projects was going to take a massive amount of work. The old, dilapidated house in downtown Concord, North Carolina also happened to be the home where Jessica spent her childhood.

The home, built in the early 1900s, meant the world to Jessica, as Adam recently stated to the Epoch Times.

“Her whole childhood revolved around the house and friends and family, congregating and sharing memories,” Adam said. “Our house was definitely the epicenter for a big, giant family.”

The home was going to require a lot of work from Adam and Jessica. Adam noticed that right from the get-go the house’s roof and foundation alone were going to need an extensive overhauling.

Restoring The Century-old House

The husband and wife team was able to restore the more-than-century-old structure. Adam posted a video on Instagram showing a dramatic before and after of the house.

Adam was very frank in explaining who did what work in and on the house.

“She designed the kitchens and bathrooms and I do the actual work and labor,” he explained. “For the most part, she’s the brains and I’m the muscle.”

The cost of the restoration has been estimated to be somewhere in the $180,000 to $200,000 neighborhood. Work to the exterior of the house, including the roof, foundation, as well as the structure's porch and guttering, cost close to $100,000. The makeover took a little over 2 years after the couple purchased the house in November 2020.
