Christian Celebrity Natalie Grant Outraged When A Mom Taunts Teen's Weight: 'You Gotta Do Better'

Christian celebrity Natalie Grant has an important message for moms everywhere after watching a mother body shame her teen daughter at the doctor's office.

Children truly are a blessing from God. And parents have the important job to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6). And that's why Christian artist Natalie Grant was so outraged by an encounter at the doctor's office.

Natalie Grant songs glorify God and all of His creation, which includes each one of us. In fact, her song 'Clean' talks about how beautiful we are in the eyes of our Heavenly Father.

Natalie Grant 'Clean' Lyrics

"I see shattered

You see whole

I see broken

But You see beautiful

And You're helping me to believe

You're restoring me piece by piece"

So, when Natalie was at the doctor's office with her 8-year-old daughter, she couldn't believe what she overheard. In fact, the incident bothered Natalie Grant so much, the Christian celebrity felt compelled to speak out with her own "public service announcement."

"Something happened this afternoon that broke my heart and I just needed to get on and talk about it," she said.

After a nurse checked the height and weight of Natalie's daughter, Sadie, a teenaged girl stepped up on the scale next.  But this teen's mom turned the routine check into public body shaming.

“This [teenage] girl gets on the scale and her mom, loudly, so that everybody could hear, goes, 'Woah, you're getting up there, oh my word,'” a heartbroken Natalie recalls.

The mother's rude remarks devastated the teen girl and outraged Natalie Grant.

“When I looked at that beautiful teenage girl, when I looked at her face that was just covered in shame, she just wanted to disappear,” Natalie explained. “We were leaving and I just said [to her] I hope you know how beautiful you are, I mean you are SO beautiful!”

Message For Moms: 'You Gotta Do Better For Your Kids'

After Natalie witnessed the damage this mother's words had on her daughter, she decided to share an important message for moms on her Natalie Grant Instagram account.

"I am not a perfect mom," Natalie confessed. "I make so many mistakes every single day. But I'm telling you, that [body-shaming] is not going to be one of them.”

With all of the pressure society puts on young women today, Natalie pointed out that parents are the ones who should be speaking life and God's truth to their kids.

"I should be the last person that would ever body shame my beautiful daughter's," she said.

Natalie then goes on to urge moms to rise above the world's standards.

"Moms, don't do it. You gotta do better for your kids!” she says.

A recent “Body Shamed” study revealed 63% of those surveyed said they’d been shamed by their mothers. MOMS - maybe it’s not as blatant as what I witnessed today, but take inventory of what you say, how you say it, and even what your body language is telling your kids about how they look. One comment can take a lifetime to untangle. 💔😭

Thank God that Natalie is speaking out and sharing this important message! As parents, let's support our kids and teach them to fix their eyes on what truly matters, not what this world values.
