70-Year-Old Retiree Was About To Get Evicted But Then Her Neighbors Stepped In

Miss Linda Taylor of Minneapolis was about to get evicted from the home that she’d rented for 19 years. But the neighbors who love her so much were not about to allow that to happen!

Even when the world seems sad and unkind, there are people who will go to great lengths to help out others. And, 70-year-old Linda is just the type of person to go above and beyond.

However, this time it was her neighbors that did that very thing for her!

Linda came to the Powderhorn Park district all those years ago in order to help the homeless and needy in the area. She’d moved into a small home at the time and remained there since. The threat of eviction came when the owner decided to sell the property, giving her until the end of January to vacate the home. The news that she was about to get evicted devasted Miss Linda.

Those living in the neighborhood adore Linda, calling her a “bright star” among the residents of their close community. She is well-liked and has a generous spirit. Folks know Linda to be a gifted gardener as well.

So, when Linda shared her situation with a single neighbor, that person connected with many in the Powderhorn Park community. Together, they worked to keep Linda in her home. The neighbors made an arrangement with the owner and committed to raising the money to purchase the home if Linda could remain for an additional six months until they were able to do so.

Neighbors held an art show and a bake sale. They did community fundraising drives and made personal donations—especially difficult at a time of high inflation and soaring gas prices. Linda even had real estate services gifted to her. And, in the end, they all came together to raise $250,000 to buy the home in which Linda had lived for nearly twenty years.

Upon closing on the purchase of the home, Linda said, “It makes me feel so good, everything that I have given, it’s coming back to me and I want to continue to give. I love this neighborhood.”

Miss Linda knows what so many don’t. She understands that community is critical—that two working together make lives better for all. Sweet Linda has no plans to stop giving or doing for others!
