Homeless Woman Who Spent 28 Years on the Street Tells Family “I Love You” and Gets a Miracle

One Wisconsin family is now whole after God and a gal named Gabby brought about a miracle reunion for a homeless woman living unsheltered in the streets of Miami.

Linda, a woman struggling with addiction and chronic illness, had been living on the streets for 28 years. She had not seen her children, mother, or sisters in all of those years, and her family worried and wondered if they’d ever see Linda again.

But, by January 2023, the wheels were in motion to make sure this homeless woman got a miracle reunion with her loved ones!

Help Mending A Broken Family

Linda, living underneath the 14th Street bridge in the Miami neighborhood of Overtown, had met Gabby several times. However, it was during a conversation on a cold Tuesday in January when Linda shared a dream.

Linda told Gabby that she’d like to try to reconnect with her mother and children.

Gabby works for an award-winning non-profit organization called Miracle Messages. Miracle Messages help people experiencing homelessness to rebuild socially and financially. Gabby listened to Linda and explained the Miracle Messages process of reunification.

Linda was nervous about what might happen and how her family members might react. However, she gave Gabby a message for her children. She asked Gabby to tell them simply that she missed and loved them.

In less than one week, one of Miracle Messagess’ volunteer internet detectives located Linda’s mother, Darlene. And this set the stage for a miracle reunion for the homeless woman and her loved ones!

Darlene immediately notified family members that Linda had been found.

“The only way I can explain it is that it’s a miracle. I never gave up hope [of finding her],” she told Gabby,

By the time Linda’s children Evelynn and Marcos—now both in their 30s—learned of Linda’s whereabouts, it had been two years since they’d received an update from their mother. They quickly booked a flight to Florida and met Gabby. Though it took a while, the three located Linda, and she agreed to return home with her kids!

"I think God just has a time for everything and this was her time," said one of Linda's daughters.

After returning to Wisconsin, Linda enrolled in a treatment program. Linda’s family is abundantly grateful for Gabby and Miracle Messages. They invited Gabby for a reunion a few months later. And Linda’s sister Angie shared, “We waited 28 years. Every year, every day, every hour, just wondering where she was and if we were ever going to find her—afraid of that phone call that something happened to her and no one knew who her family was.”

Linda remembered Gabby’s kindness, saying, “Gabby sat with me on the ground that night, and it was cold. She took down my information. I will never forget that. Gabby. I love you. You are going to be part of this family forever.”

A Prayer to Stir Up Thanksgiving Gratefulness - Your Daily Prayer - November 28

One way the Pilgrims showed thankfulness was by being generous with the Native Americans, sharing their faith, time, and harvest with them. Like them, we can stir up Thanksgiving gratefulness around us, too, by being generous.
