Michael J Fox's Son Sam Helped His Dad Silence An Online Troll Mocking Parkinson's

Like father like son, Michael J Fox’s son, Sam, helped his dad silence an online troll mocking Parkinson’s disease.

Micheal has been open about his journey with Parkinson’s Disease since his 1991 diagnosis. In spite of the debilitating disease, Micheal has found joy and happiness, and he is fiercely supported by his family.

The beloved Hollywood actor relies on his son to help him combat the negativity that comes with living life in public. Michael isn’t a stranger to haters, critics, and people who are just downright mean. And in one instance, Michael J Fox enlisted his son Sam over a comment on Twitter.

He shared, "Somebody said something nasty about Parkinson's, and I usually let that stuff just go by me. It doesn't happen that often (and) when it does, I don't really care about it. But I wanted to answer this guy in some way."

Sam, who himself looks like a younger version of Michael, had an idea. Michael shared, "So my son said, 'Just do this. Do SMH' and I went, 'What do you mean SMH?' He said 'Just trust me, do SMH.”

Unsure of what ‘SMH’ meant, Michael J Fox followed his son’s advice.

Within minutes of posting, Micheal had the troll laughing, and he also apologized! Michael explained, "He answers me back, 'That's the funniest thing I've ever read in my life. You're the king of the internet. I apologize for anything I said to you,'”

At this point, Michael J Fox was confused and had to ask his son what ‘SMH’ meant. His son then informed him of the intended pun. SMH is a social media acronym that stands for ‘shaking my head.’ Those with Parkison’s often have rhythmic tremors, shaking, in the head, hands, and feet.

Well done, Sam! He took the high road and used humor to silence the troll while keeping his father’s joyful demeanor intact. How do you handle negativity?

The Good Book reminds us to keep our eyes focused on Christ so that we can glorify the Lord in all we do. Even when we encounter harsh individuals. I’m thankful Michael shared this story because we are encouraged to keep short records of wrongs and forgive others, not hold bitterness, and love one another.
