Veteran's Day Dinner Plea Goes Viral After Note From Lonely Disabled Vet Gets Shared Online
November 09, 2023
Lonely and disabled veteran Lyndon Dale Flowers just wanted some company for a Veteran's Day dinner. He certainly never expected the handwritten note he hung up at the barbershop to go viral. But once word got out, so many wanted to shower this sweet man with acts of kindness!
63-year-old disabled veteran Lyndon Dale Flowers lives by himself in Lewiston, Maine. He joined the Navy in 1976 and spent 20 years serving his country. He's divorced from his wife and both of his children are grown and busy with their own lives.

So, several years ago, Lyndon found himself alone and longing to have company for a Veteran's Day dinner. He decided to post an "ad" of sorts and hung a handwritten note up at Judy and Heather's Barbershop.
The note read, "Would someone like to take a local disabled veteran to dinner on Veteran's Day? No car. My treat."
The note tugged at the heartstrings of one of the shop owners, Heather Swift. She decided to post Lyndon's message on social media to see if anyone would be willing to help make his Veteran's Day dinner dreams come true.
But when Heather's post went viral, the disabled veteran got an outpouring of love from all over!
Kindness For A Special Disabled Veteran
As Lyndon's touching letter made its way around the Internet, folks from all over started reaching out.
"I've been getting calls from all across the country. Even people just wishing me well," Lyndon Dale Flowers said.
The kindness of so many strangers succeeded in bolstering the disabled veteran's spirits.
"Warms my heart to hear that there's [sic] people out there that care," he said.
And while Lydon didn't get a Veteran's Day dinner, he did get a special visit from Sandy Washer and her family.
"I went on Facebook for a minute and that just happened to pop up, and I said, 'I can't take you to dinner, but I can take you to lunch'," Sandy said.
Sandy and her family drove about 40 minutes so they could take Lyndon out to lunch. It was something they were more than happy to do if it meant honoring a veteran.
"Veterans have a soft spot in my heart. My dad was in the Army for 20 years," Sandy explained.
All of the attention surprised, yet delighted Lydon.
"I didn't mean to make a big uproar," he said, "I just wanted to go to dinner!"

What a blessing the kind response has been for this disabled veteran. What a special way to remind him he's not alone.
And thankfully, the blessings didn't end with Veteran's Day. Lyndon said he'd also been making plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas, too!
