Lead Me by Sanctus Real is one of the most passionate songs to fathers. It shows a real man who is praying to God that he will not fail his wife and children. It shows a man asking God to lead him so that he can lead his family in love. I am encouraged every time I here this song to be the best dad that I can be and I hope you will see that our Father is the best Dad we’ll ever have! He loves us unconditionally and will never leave us! Please enjoy reading the lyrics below and my thoughts about them!
“I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames, I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling, but on the inside
Oh, I can hear her saying
Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, but what about us?
Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone
I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They're just children from the outside
I'm working hard, I tell myself they'll be fine
They're independent, but on the inside
Oh, I can hear them saying
Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?
Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone
So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I'm called to be
Oh Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won't You lead me?
To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can't
Don't want to leave them hungry for love
Chasing things that I could give up
I'll show them I'm willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me 'cause I can't do this alone
Father, lead me 'cause I can't do this alone
Father, lead me 'cause I can't do this alone”
Thinking On The Lyrics
This song is pretty straight-forward. His wife is beautiful and is always smiling, but he knows inside she is still crying out for him to lead her as the man should. The same is for his children. They look great on the outside and he is sure they are independent and yet they are crying out on the inside for him to be a father and love them and lead them as a father should. God designed men to be courageous and fight for what is worth fighting for. I can’t think of anything greater to fight for then our wives and kids, except to spread the Good News of Jesus everywhere we go! Why did you say “I do”? Did you mean what you said in your vows? The person officiating your wedding asked you something along these lines, “Do you take [Bride’s Name] to be your wedded wife to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love, comfort, honor and keep her for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, be faithful only to her so long as you both shall live?" This song is all about this! We are to lead our wives no matter what is going on. Whether they are doing great or bad, whether they are ill or healthy, whether they have abundance or little, we are called to love and lead them. The same is for our children. We need to model what a man looks like for them, so that our daughters choose a good man for a husband. We need to model what a father should look like, so that our sons can be good fathers to their children. And most importantly we must be on our knees in prayer asking God to help us. The end of the song brings it all into perspective:
“So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I'm called to be
Oh Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won't You lead me?
To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can't
Don't want to leave them hungry for love
Chasing things that I could give up
I'll show them I'm willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me 'cause I can't do this alone
Father, lead me 'cause I can't do this alone”
Conclusion
This would be a great prayer for all husbands/fathers to pray daily! If we are focused on our own wants and needs we may never see the wants and needs of those who love us most, “Don’t want to leave them hungry for love, chasing things that I could give up!” If we aren’t putting our wives and children before our needs then we need to take a step back and let go of the things that really don’t matter. So, pray today for the Father to lead you with His mighty hands, so you can lead your family with strong, loving hands! God bless you all!
