And what's especially interesting about this Christmas tune is, if not for a misunderstanding, this song would never have been written in the first place!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

Jack Frost nipping at your nose

Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir

And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Silent Night and Jingle Bells, both written in the 1800s, are some of the most performed Christmas songs of all time. So The Christmas Song, which was written in 1945 by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé, is relatively young in relation. But the story of how this Christmas classic accidentally came to be is pretty incredible!

The Story Behind The Christmas Song

Bob Wells and Mel Tormé didn’t originally set out to write the now-popular song at all! It was a really hot summer day, and the two musicians were hanging out. As a way to stay cool, Bob had started writing down things that made him think of wintertime. He was really hot and believed if he wrote down chilly thoughts, he could become more comfortable! Mel saw the list and mistakenly thought that Bob had started writing a song. So, he started adding to it and completing it! And that’s the story behind The Christmas Song.

As Lauren Daigle sings The Christmas Song, her smoky voice lends itself perfectly to this Christmas classic.
