8-Year-Old Kid's To-Do List Goes Viral As a Wholesome Reminder for Us All
September 11, 2024
An 8-year-old kid's to-do list goes viral, and it is a wholesome reminder for us all.
We fill to-do lists with tasks we believe are essential. They often offer a glimpse into our priorities. Yet, sometimes, the most profound wisdom can come from the simplest of lists.

The Special List Reflects a Heart of a Child
At first glance, this special list reflects the heart of a child. “Play with Dad” and “Be helpful to Daddy” stand out, revealing the sweet simplicity of prioritizing family and kindness. It's a beautiful reminder of the importance of spending time with loved ones and being a blessing to others. That is something we often overlook in our busy lives.
Even their responsibility to “Pet Cash, feed Cash, let Cash out,” shows how caring for others, even a pet, teaches the value of stewardship. It's a reflection of the heart of service that Jesus calls us to embrace.
Then, there’s the fun of being a kid: “Play loud librarians,” likely referring to a game called Really Loud Librarians, alongside “order a game,” showcasing a joyful balance of learning and play. In this, we see the importance of embracing joy and curiosity, which God encourages us to cultivate.
The Child Wrote "Be Weird" On Their To-Do List
But what stands out most are two items on this list that reveal a depth of wisdom well beyond the child’s years.

Right at the top of the kid's to-do list is the command to “Be weird.” While many children (and adults) strive to fit in, this child boldly decides to embrace their uniqueness. It’s a refreshing reminder that God has created each of us fearfully and wonderfully, with our own set of gifts, quirks, and strengths. As Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This child is living out that truth by choosing to be unapologetically themselves.
Perhaps the most profound item on the list is the simple but powerful instruction: “Be content.” Our culture is exceedingly focused on comparison. And this constant striving to “keep up” can make contentment feel elusive. But this young child has grasped a truth that many of us struggle to learn: contentment is a gift from God.
The Kid's To-Do List Echoes Biblical Wisdom
The Bible reminds us of this in Philippians 4:11-12, where Paul writes, “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.”
This child, with just two words, echoes this biblical wisdom. To be content is to trust that God has given us all that we need for this moment. It’s a call to be satisfied, to stop searching for more, and to rest in the peace that God provides.

This 8-year-old kid's list reminds us of something even deeper: God wants our priorities to be simple. In a world that encourages us to chase after more—more success, more possessions, more recognition—God calls us to focus on what truly matters. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we prioritize our relationship with God, our family, our responsibilities, and our contentment, everything else falls into place.
It Is More Than a To-Do List
This child’s list is more than a to-do list. It reflects a heart aligned with simple truths that we often complicate. God’s desire for us is not to live in constant busyness or endless pursuit of worldly success. Instead, He asks us to slow down, embrace joy, be kind, and trust in Him.
So, as you consider your own priorities, take a lesson from this wise 8-year-old: Be weird, be kind, and most importantly, be content. These are the things that matter most to God, and when we live with these priorities, we experience a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Keep it simple, keep it joyful, and keep your heart focused on what truly matters.
