Recently, singer Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea Bongiovi, opened up about their 40-year love story.
Jon Bonjovi may sing, “you give love a bad name” but his 31-year marriage is standing testament to just the opposite. When asked about the key to their success, Jon replied, “mutual respect.” He then went on to say “having grown up together and grown together. And we really like each other. We want to hangout.”

“Somehow it works. I think because we grow at the same rate. We grew equally and not in opposite directions.” Dorothea shared.
The couple is very strong together, and enjoy parenting their children: Stephanie 27, Jesse, 25, Jacob, 18, and Romeo, 16. Jon shared that while a career in rock-and-roll has led many people astray, his relationship with Dorthea has kept him grounded. “It’s a partnership,” said Dorothea. “I never pointed at the TV and said, ‘There’s Daddy!’ We try hard just to give our kids a normal life,” she shared.
"She’s the glue. I’m the crazy visionary with all kinds of things flying, and the seams are all splitting. She’s the one following me with the glue and the thread and needle, keeping it all together,” Jon said.
"We work hard at it, but we enjoy each other and we never fell for the trappings of what celebrity can do,” Jon said. He then added, “We’ve witnessed that happen over the years to people that were close to us.”

One thing that they do together is help others, and that is very admirable. The couple started The JBJ Soul Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help others who are less fortunate. “When we see injustice, or other people suffering, you want to help. We are very blessed to have the ability to do that.”
“I am happiest if I like what I do for a living, then I am doing right by my family, and I’m making the world a little better.” Jon and Dororthea are setting a wonderful example for how to lead a happy marriage together while serving others.
