Joanna Gaines on Today Show Opens up About 'Being Different' and Dealing with Insecurity

Joanna Gaines on the Today Show gives a glimpse into her life not many of her fans have seen. On camera, the Christian celebrity is always so put together and confident. But the former HGTV star opens up about the times in her life anxiety has crept in and how she's overcome the insecurities plaguing her.

Joanna is known for making a house feel like home. She’s built an empire of decor, remodeling houses, and all with her five kids and devoted husband by her side. We can’t help but adore the way Chip is always trying to get her to laugh and smile.

From the outside looking in, their lives look dreamy and picturesque. When we look into the life of someone like Joanna Gaines, we see grit, grace, talent, beauty, and hard work. But that’s not always how she saw herself.

Joanna Gaines sat down on the Today Show with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush to share why she wrote the book, “The Stories We Tell.”

Feeling Different: Joanna Gaines Nationality

At six, she realized she looked different from everyone else because she was half-Korean.

But she says she didn’t want to bring this burden on her mother, who is Korean. But after her 44th birthday, Joanna realized she was halfway through this life when she felt like her view was beginning to feel “fuzzy.”

While on the Today Show, Joanna Gaines reveals how that was when she decided to channel herself as the six-year-old little girl with frizzy hair and a missing tooth. That little girl was “light-spirited,” carefree, and not defined by the world. She was a child of God and happy in her own skin.

Isn’t that the truth? We are most comfortable in our own skin when we go back to the most precious definition of ourselves as children of God instead of carrying the world’s labels. What a remarkable interview and insight. I, for one, cannot wait to pick up Joanna’s new book and remind myself I am God’s daughter.

A Prayer for Those Who Are Lonely or Isolated This Christmas - Your Daily Prayer - December 23

This Christmas, remember how precious you are to the Creator. Remember that there is nothing you can do or say that would ever separate His presence and love from you. It’s okay to go through Christmas feeling alone and isolated, but make sure you turn to God to fill those feelings of loneliness.
