The young man from Hawaii displayed his musical gifts and penchant for excellent song selection repeatedly. He would go on to become the winner of the 21st season of American Idol. However, years before he went before and sang a word in front of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, Iam Tongi gave an impressive, moving performance of “Amazing Grace."
A video posted on Iam’s YouTube channel in 2021 shows the young singing and playing the guitar to the classic hymn. In the clip, Iam performs with a young woman, Eta Lauti. Much like Iam, she has boatloads of talent. Her voice is absolutely dazzling!
The video begins with both talented musicians sitting outside on a bench while performing. Placed throughout the video are photos and scenes from films featuring Jesus Christ.
