100-Year-Old Couple Inspires With Their Love Story And Then Dies Less Than 24 Hours Apart

Hubert and June Malicote enjoyed 79 beautiful years of marriage. And with an end befitting of their inspiring love story, hours after Hubert took his last breath, June soon followed.

Hubert and June Malicote of Ohio wowed the world with their beautiful love story as a couple married 79 years. Both were born in rural Kentucky in July of 1922. And by the time they were young adults looking for jobs in Hamilton, Ohio, God found an amazing way to bring the two together.

Hubert received an invitation to come to church. And as it turns out, this wasn't just an opportunity to deepen his faith, but to meet his future wife, too!

The Love Story Of Hubert and June Malicote

When Hubert entered the church, he noticed a "pew full of young girls." One of those girls was June and when she spotted Hubert, she flashed him a lovely smile. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hubert and June Malicote married on June 8, 1943. Soon after, Hubert served in the Navy and headed off to World War II. He was gone for two years, but when he finally headed home, June was there waiting to greet him at the train station.

After that, the two settled down in Hamilton, Ohio, and started a family. The couple raised three children, who went on to bless them with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren!

"It was a fairytale of just happiness," the couple's daughter, Jo, said of the bond her parents shared. "We are the three most blessed children ever."

Faith and family were at the center of their love. And in 2022, the adorable couple celebrated 79 years of marriage, as well as turned 100 years old. Their inspiring love story captured the attention of a local news station where the husband and wife explained just how seriously they took their vows of "til death do us part."

Sadly, not long after Hubert and June Malicote celebrated their 100th birthdays, June became ill with a heart condition. Doctors did not expect her to live long beyond the end of the year and she moved into hospice care.

Following June's decline, Hubert simply "fell apart" and joined his wife's side in hospice. Holding the hand of his wife of 79 years, he passed away, dying of "a broken heart" according to his children.

"He literally, I think, just willed himself to go on ahead of her," their daughter Jo explained.

Not even 24 hours later, June left for Heaven, too.

"We sang to her, we read scriptures to her and we gave her permission to go on, to be with daddy," Jo recalled.

And though the loss hit the family hard, they took comfort in knowing Hubert and June Malicote greeted death the same way they spent their lives -- together.

"They went out together," said the couple's son, Sam. "I feel sad, but I shouldn’t. Who can expect to live a life like that? They lived a long, happy life together and they were devoted to God and the family."
