Hairdresser Refuses To Back Down On Giving Boy With Autism A Haircut

Hairdresser Sat On The Floor For Boy With Autism

For children with autism, simple tasks like getting a haircut can be a huge challenge. That's what West Virginia mom, Jennifer McCafferty, was facing when she took her 4-year-old son Isaiah, who has autism, to get a trim. She was ready to give up. But you know who wasn't? A Sports Clips stylist named Kaylen. Patiently, the hairdresser sat on the floor until little Isaiah was comfortable enough for his trim. And it meant the world to his mom!

Jennifer applauded the dedicated hairdresser on Facebook. There, she writes:

"This woman, Kaylen, at Sports Clips in Charleston did more for my heart than she will probably ever realize.

Haircuts with Isaiah are no small feat. He hates having anything near his ears, the sound of clippers sends him in to a tailspin...this evening was no different.

I was ready to give up, but she wasn't.

She sat on the floor with my baby in her lap, and she cut his hair. They talked about Dory and Christmas, and she even let him spray her with her water bottle.

Autism can be so very, very hard, but people like this make our days just a little easier."

And it's not just Jennifer who appreciates Kaylen's patience and understanding. The Facebook post describing the experience has been shared over 27,000 times. Many took the time to comment with their own words of appreciation.

For Jennifer, Kaylen's compassion was just what she needed. And she's sharing the story in the hopes that it will help other parents to children with special needs.

“I want them to realize that even though it can feel like it, they are not alone,” she said. “I want everyone to see just how much love and kindness matter.”

Sometimes all it takes is the simplest act of kindness to turn someone's day around. We hope this story will encourage you to do something kind for someone today!

The moment this boy with autism met his service dog will bring on the tears!
