Grieving Aunt Honors Her Late Niece
There are times when speech falls short, and pictures capture what words simply can't. That's certainly the case with a heartbreaking photo series shared by a grieving aunt known as Taisce on the social sharing site, Imgur. [caption id="attachment_29628" align="aligncenter" width="750"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption]Katherine The Brave
At just 6 years old, Katherine King began displaying behaviors that alarmed her mom, Jamie. She stumbled, started seeing double and even suffered some hearing loss. It took multiple doctors to finally diagnose the little girl and confirm Jamie's worst fears. Katherine suffered from an incredibly aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer -- Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). [caption id="attachment_29551" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Credit: Facebook / Katherine The Brave[/caption] Given just 9 months left to live, the diagnosis was a complete shock to the family. Her mom set up the Facebook page, Katherine the Brave, to document her journey. It provided a way for far away family, like Taisce, to stay in the loop. [caption id="attachment_29552" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Credit: Facebook / Katherine The Brave[/caption] But it was also a way to spread Katherine's sad story in the hope of raising awareness and support of this terrible disease. [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] Sadly, pediatric cancer receives very little funding or research. Most efforts focus on adults, instead. As a result, there have been few advancements over the years to help kids with cancer. RELATED: Dad gives his dying baby girl the wedding of her dreams This is precisely why sharing Katherine's story is so important to her family. Their hope is that more awareness will spare another family from experiencing the same heartbreak they've been forced to endure. Jamie wrote,"We are asking that people share her story and her fight with DIPG! Get the word out, talk about this, get upset, wonder, question this disease . . . so that other parents and kids, when told that they have DIPG and a 9 month survival rate, are not stuck with no hope as we’ve been given, and have had to look beyond for our own hope."[caption id="attachment_29553" align="aligncenter" width="679"] Credit: GoFundMe[/caption] This brave little angel left for Heaven about a year after her diagnosis. Reeling from the pain of losing her beloved 7-year-old niece far too soon, her aunt, Taisce, posted a string of photos showing Katherine's cancer battle. It's a heart-wrenching yet beautiful tribute, honoring the sweet girl the world lost, but also her parents wishes to spread awareness.
Here is the full tribute as posted by Katherine's grieving aunt:
Goodbye Katherine King. [caption id="attachment_29580" align="alignnone" width="567"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] You left us too early. [caption id="attachment_29581" align="aligncenter" width="425"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] Way before your time. [caption id="attachment_29582" align="aligncenter" width="566"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] There was still so much to do and experience. [caption id="attachment_29583" align="aligncenter" width="425"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] You had your entire life before you. [caption id="attachment_29584" align="aligncenter" width="567"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] You should have been able to go to high school. [caption id="attachment_29585" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] She should have had a boyfriend... [caption id="attachment_29586" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] Gotten married. [caption id="attachment_29587" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] Had her 2.5 children. [caption id="attachment_29588" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] And had all of her dreams fulfilled. [caption id="attachment_29589" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] Instead you were given an hour glass. [caption id="attachment_29590" align="aligncenter" width="425"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] With the time you were given you raised awareness. [caption id="attachment_29593" align="aligncenter" width="595"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] You wanted everyone to be happy. [caption id="attachment_29594" align="aligncenter" width="290"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] To not worry about you, you even were sure that it was your fault you were sick. [caption id="attachment_29595" align="aligncenter" width="239"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] You were kind when you could have lashed out. [caption id="attachment_29596" align="aligncenter" width="567"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] You were brave even though you had every reason to be afraid. [caption id="attachment_29597" align="aligncenter" width="756"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] You were strong even though you were allowed to be weak. [caption id="attachment_29598" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] Even as you slipped away, you never wanted others to worry. [caption id="attachment_29599" align="aligncenter" width="274"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] In a time where you could be selfish, you were selfless. [caption id="attachment_29600" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] You were loved by everyone who met you. [caption id="attachment_29601" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] You touched the lives of everyone you knew, you made them better through your own strength and love. [caption id="attachment_29602" align="aligncenter" width="639"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] Your tumour made you a prisoner inside your own body. [caption id="attachment_29603" align="aligncenter" width="425"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] You couldn’t sing, you couldn’t dance, you couldn’t tell your family that you loved them. [caption id="attachment_29604" align="aligncenter" width="567"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] Worst of all you couldn’t eat rainbow sherbet anymore. [caption id="attachment_29605" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] Or tell people that your favourite colour was rainbow. [caption id="attachment_29606" align="aligncenter" width="283"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] You were told it was okay to let go, to not suffer, to not be in pain. [caption id="attachment_29607" align="aligncenter" width="283"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] And you did, and you will be missed by so many people. [caption id="attachment_29608" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] [/slide] You were loved by more than you’ll ever realise. [caption id="attachment_29609" align="aligncenter" width="319"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption] But, you will live forever within our hearts and our memories. [caption id="attachment_29610" align="aligncenter" width="426"] Credit: Imgur / Taisce[/caption]The family's efforts to advocate for others during such a difficult time is truly inspirational. Please keep each of them in your prayers.

Worrying does nothing to benefit our lives in any way; it only takes away. It takes away the present moments and present joy you could experience, not to mention it takes away from a peaceful life.
