4 Ways You Can Tell If You're Doing God's Will. #3 Just Clicked Something 'On' In My Brain!

The Door To God's Will

God's Will. Those are 'heavy' words and, years ago, I really struggled with those words, but not so much anymore. BUT I do still struggle with discerning 'which' path is the right one. Which door has been opened for me...or did I just kick it in myself because I wanted to go through that door? Hmmm. Interesting.

How do we know if the doors that are open to us are from God?

Well, Pastor Jack Wellman has posed an interesting question with some equally thoughtful answers to consider.

1) Does the Door point to God's Glory?

Here is some truth as your foundation: No door that God opens will EVER contradict His word / scripture. For example, if you are feeling led to quit your job and move to another country and serve as a missionary...you will not need to divorce your spouse to make that happen. An unbiblical divorce is not of God. If we keep His commandments, then we know we are in God's will.

Simply discuss such thoughts or dreams with your spouse. God just might be calling both of you!

2) Do you have Confirmation from Others that this is the right door?

Truth: Jesus is the only one who can open or close a door. Pray for God to reveal to you the right path - leaving you with clear instructions and obvious choices.

Revelation 3:8 teaches us, "I know your works: behold, I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it: for you have a little strength, and have kept my word, and have not denied my name."

3) Does THIS Door make you completely dependent on Him?

Truth: We cannot do anything without God. And that means opening doors, too.

If we manage to open and walk through a door with little to no effort, and certainly with no input from God, well then, we might be walking down a path on our own. We then are depending on our strength and wisdom. God wants us to depend on Him - completely.

"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me." John 15:4

"I am the vine, you are the branches: He that stays in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing." John 15:5

4) Did the Door open all by itself?

Truth: We must step out in Faith.

Sometimes God wants to see us step up to a door and boldly walk as if it is going to open. God wants to see our faith in action.

Colossians 3: 23-24 teaches us, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Thank you, Pastor Wellman, for opening our eyes and minds to such thoughts. May God bless all of our readers who are seeking God's will for their lives. I encourage each of you to seek counsel from a local pastor or a friend who has some experience reading scripture to help you in your walk.
