Girl Scout Saves Her Dad's Life Just 11 Days After Learning CPR

Vada Carawan of Virginia is just 11 years old but did something truly heroic. She saved her dad using CPR. Just 11 days after she learned how to do it in a CPR Training course she took with her Girl Scout troop.

A few days before Thanksgiving, on what started out as a normal day, Vada’s father, Clint, told her that he was having chest pains. This made the young girl nervous, as you can imagine. She then told her father to drink water, relax, and do you need me to call anybody? Your mom? My mom?”

That was when he told her he was experiencing heart attack symptoms. He then fell in his room, and Vada knew something was very wrong. Even though she was scared, she was able to focus on helping her dad. “I was like, okay, the main priority right now is to help my dad. I need to focus on that,” she shared on the Tamron Hall Show.

That’s when she started doing chest compressions while calling 911. At the time her dad was just trying to grasp for air. The paramedics were able to come and Clint was saved. On the Tamron Hall Show, he shares that he is recovering, feeling great, and going to cardio rehab.

Amanda, Vada’s mom, shares that Clint did have what is called a “Massive Heart Attack.” “Because she got to him so fast, the EMTs actually said that he had undergone CPR-induced consciousness. Which meant his heart wasn’t beating but his eyes were open and he was kinda looking around seeming to be aware but he doesn’t remember any of it,” Amanda shared on the show.

The Girl Scout Who Saved Her Dad Was Recognized

After Vada completed her CPR training, she received a CPR Training Badge and shared it on the show. But beyond that, Tamron had a big surprise for her. Girl Scouts of the USA wanted to honor Vada for her heroic actions in saving her dad’s life.

Sarah Keating, Vice President of Girl and Volunteer Experience at Girl Scouts of the USA along with a Girl Scout troop from Queens joined the show to congratulate Vada. That’s when Sarah Keating presented her with the Medal of Honor award. “It’s fancy,” Vada responds. The award is given to a Girl Scout who bravely saved a human life in a way that generally someone else their age wouldn’t have been able to do.

Sarah pins it on Vada as the audience cheers. What a well-deserved award for a young girl who saved her dad.

A Prayer When Comparison Roars in Your Heart - Your Daily Prayer - January 17

Comparison pumps me up or tears me down depending on who I’m comparing myself to, and I finally heard God whispering, “That’s enough, daughter. Let me reveal my truth.”
