Formerly Homeless Student Overcame So Many Struggles to Become Valedictorian with 8.07 GPA
May 16, 2023
One young woman, who was formerly homeless, refused to let some massive obstacles keep her from achieving her dream, graduating at the top of her class with an insanely high grade point average.
Periodically, hurdles will spring up on our road in life. When coming upon these difficulties, there are basically only two ways of handling them. One route is to allow them to discourage us and keep us from moving forward to something better. The other is to see them as an opportunity to use them to spring ourselves forward, becoming physically and mentally tougher.

Jasmine Mazard-Larry, a 17-year-old high school student, has faced several obstacles in her young life, including homelessness, but she did not let it stop her, according to Good Morning America.
Prior to beginning her high school career, Jasmine did not have a home. That’s because the family’s home had recently burned down. If that wasn’t enough for a young woman entering an important period of life, she also had other obstacles. She had been diagnosed with ADHD and suffers from hearing loss.

Regardless, she did not let any of that keep her from moving forward, pushing herself. She wanted to be at the top of her class, so she enrolled in Advanced Placement classes, took dual enrollment classes and took part in the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education program.
Jasmine also kept herself busy outside of the classroom. She was in the student council, art club, student government association and on the speech and debate team.
The High School Student Refused to Let Obstacles Stop Her From Achieving Her Goal
"I think going through all of this … has led me to want to persevere and want to show little girls or boys my age that they can do it too," Jasmine said.
That’s a heck of a schedule for anyone, let alone a high school student!
But all of Jasmine’s hard work and dedication have paid off. She will be the valedictorian of her high school class with an 8.07 GPA, according to Yahoo.
"She's really taken the initiative to go above and beyond," Jasmine’s high school principal said. "She had this goal of being top in her class, and ultimately she met it."
Not only will she finish her high school career with a high school diploma, but thanks to her dual enrollment work, she will also obtain an associate degree from a community college in her area.

Jasmine will attend college after high school, according to Good Morning America. She also plans to work in the medical field as a doctor. It's clear nothing will keep this impressive young lady from getting that doctorate degree.
“There is a blessing on the man who undergoes testing; because, if he has God’s approval, he will be given the crown of life, which the Lord has said he will give to those who have love for him.” – James 1:12
