First look wedding photos often capture one of the most emotional moments of the day, but when Quinn Meineke turned around for his first look, he saw something utterly unexpected.

A dog takes the bride’s place during the first look, and wait until you see how the pup reacts. Instead of his bride, Madeline, walking towards him, Quinn was greeted by a more furry surprise: his beloved dachshund, Penny, bounding toward him with her tail wagging furiously.

Quinn Was Totally Surprised 

“I had no idea she was going to be part of the wedding until I turned around that day,” Quinn said. As Penny reached him, she covered his face with kisses, her excitement palpable and heartwarming.

Though Quinn and Madeline had initially decided it would be too challenging to include Penny in their wedding, Madeline didn’t give up on the idea. Penny, who had been a cherished part of their lives from early in their relationship, deserved to share in the special day.

“Quinn didn’t know this. I bought the dress for her and I decided to pivot and try to make it a surprise,” Madeline shared. “I knew we were doing our first look outside, and I knew that wouldn’t be an issue to have her outside. So that’s kind of how it all came to be.”

The Videographer Captured the Big Moment 

Their wedding videographer, Claudia Goodwin, beautifully captured the big moment. The video, which has since gone viral with over 1.8 million views on Instagram, perfectly showcases Quinn’s surprise and Penny’s joyous reaction.

"As a dog momma myself, I have a soft spot for weddings that include their pups," Claudia captioned the viral post. "Madeline was incredibly excited to surprise her groom with their dog, Penny, during what should have been their bride and groom's first look. Just wait until you see how Penny reacts to seeing her dad!"

Claudia described Quinn’s emotions leading up to the surprise. Claudia recalled, "I mean, he thought he was about to see his bride, and you know, he was all giddy. And just like, you could see, he was kind of like fidgeting. And it was a big moment." She added, "So you can see, when he turned around his eyes are up, like he was searching, 'Like, what?' And then when he saw Penny, I mean, he just went back to his normal, incredible self as a dog dad, and you just saw the way Penny loved him."

Quinn’s reaction was priceless. He went from being a ball of nerves to being relaxed as a dad dog. Penny brought him joy, comfort, and confidence.

The touching surprise not only added an extra layer of joy to their wedding day but also underscored the deep bond between Quinn and Penny. As they celebrated their union, Penny’s appearance was a heartwarming reminder of the love and happiness pets bring into our lives.
