It was just another day on the job when Santa Monica firefighter, Andrew Klein was called to an apartment fire.  What he didn't expect was to save doggie, Nalu, who had been trapped and was now lifeless.

The pooch's owner, Crystal Lamirande, had just returned home when a neighbor alerted her to the fire. At that point, the smoke had taken over so heavily she was unable to find Nalu.

Saving the lifeless dog

When firefighters arrived, Crystal begged them to find her doggie. That's when the team jumped into action. Andrew Klein discovered lifeless dog, Nalu,  while crawling through a back bedroom.

"He was totally lifeless," the firefighter told the Associated Press news agency. "I picked him up and ran out of the apartment because time is key, especially with a small dog... Failure was not an option.''

Refusing To Give Up

Andrew wasn't about to lose a life on his watch. Not if he could do something about it. So, the hero wasted no time coming to the rescue, performing CPR to get the little pup breathing again.

"After 20 minutes, the dog began breathing on its own and regained consciousness, even regaining the ability to walk around," the Santa Monica Fire Department said in a press release.

Getting Him Back

Crystal feared the worst, as she stood by and watched.

"His eyes were glazed over and he was not breathing and I assumed he was dead," Crystal told BBC. "But the firefighter said 'I'm a positive person. Let's just get him back'."

And that's exactly what Andrew did!

And it's all thanks to the determination of Mr. Klein!

Once Nalu was feeling better, Crystal brought the pup by to give his hero some well deserved puppy kisses. And it was just the pick me up Andrew needed after a few weeks that had been tough.

"Our goal is to save people, and sometimes we're not able to do that despite our best efforts. But to have a success story just like this, even with Nalu being a dog, I mean again he's a life and he's a life that matters. That was just a great morale booster for all of the guys here in our department," he said.

What a blessing Andrew is to his department and community!

A Prayer for Transforming Worry into Trust - Your Daily Prayer - October 24

Worrying does nothing to benefit our lives in any way; it only takes away. It takes away the present moments and present joy you could experience, not to mention it takes away from a peaceful life.
