Loretta Lynn's Granddaughter And Willie Nelson's Son Sing 'Lay Me Down'

Loretta Lynn's Granddaughter And Willie Nelson's Son Sing 'Lay Me Down'

Emmy Russell and Lukas Nelson both come from families blessed with the gift of musical talent. Emmy is Loretta Lynn's granddaughter and Lukas is Willie Nelson's son. And now, the pair are teaming up to perform 'Lay Me Down,' a beautiful song about the somber reality of passing from this side of heaven to the next.

The song ‘Lay Me Down’ is a song penned like the words found in the Psalms that reflect on our own morality and how we will be at peace once we meet our heavenly father face to face.

The song is told from the point of view of how rough and unfair the world is and how we don’t truly find peace until we are laid to rest. The lyrics go:

“When they lay me down someday,

my soul will rise, then fly away.

This old world will turn around.

I’ll be at peace when they lay me down.

This life isn’t fair, it seems.

It’s filled with tears and broken dreams.

There are no tears where I am bound,

and I’ll be at peace when they lay me down”

But what captures it so beautifully are the voices of Emmy Russell and Lukas Nelson.

Loretta Lynn And Willie Nelson Song Covered By Family

Lukas Nelson sounds so much like his father Willie, and Emma Russell exudes the spirit of her grandmother. Together the pair delivered a beautiful rendition their families would be proud of.

Sadly, Lorretta Lynn passed away at age 90 on October 4, 2022. And this performance is a stunning tribute to the “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” The torch has been passed on from one generation to the next of these musical families, and they honored the late and great Lorretta Lynn, who loved Christ more than life itself. The performance will absolutely bring tears to your eyes and call to the depths of your spirit that yearns to be with Jesus.

On this episode of Talk About That, we come back to the idea that cynicism is easy and hope is hard. If we’re not careful, we can all be cynics. But what have we built? The things that we grow and build in life that matter most are usually the people with whom we’ve built relationships. Today, John and Jonnie have a conversation about the courage it takes to hope and why the next generation may actually be getting tired of cynicism.
