An Elderly Woman Uses Compassion To Calm An Erratic Man On A Train

Compassion In The Face Of Fear

When a large man began acting erratically on a train -- shouting, cursing and moving about aggressively -- the other passengers did what you'd expect. They moved as far away from him as they could. But one passenger did the opposite -- she moved closer. And now her act of compassion is going viral! godupdates compassion for erratic man on train 1 Credit: Facebook / Ehab Taha The incident took place on the Metro in Vancouver. Suddenly, a man who witnesses guess to have been battling either mental health issues or drug abuse, began displaying "erratic movements, cursing, shouting, etc." His abnormal behavior frightened everyone. And that's when a 70-year-old woman did something unexpected. She reached out and held his hand. [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] The brave display of compassion did the trick. The man calmed down, and eventually sank to the ground with tears in his eyes. A fellow passenger, Ehab Taha, was especially moved by the moment and snapped a photo. He shared the story on Facebook, which has since gone viral.

And when Ehab asked the woman what prompted her courageous act of humanity, she tearfully replied,
"I'm a mother and he needed someone to touch."
Her kindness is reminiscent of Jesus' own compassion for the demon-possessed man he encountered in Mark 5: 1-20. The entire town avoided this man because of his bizarre and volatile behavior. Jesus could have avoided him too, but instead went to him and freed him from the demons. The story spread quickly, and the man himself went out to tell everyone of Jesus' compassion. Likewise, it is the elderly woman's Christ-like compassion towards the man on the train that has caused this story to go viral!
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7

A Prayer for Those Who Are Lonely or Isolated This Christmas - Your Daily Prayer - December 23

This Christmas, remember how precious you are to the Creator. Remember that there is nothing you can do or say that would ever separate His presence and love from you. It’s okay to go through Christmas feeling alone and isolated, but make sure you turn to God to fill those feelings of loneliness.
