After Over 450 Days in a Shelter, Boone and Rellie Find Their Forever Home, Together

After over 450 days in a shelter, Boone and Rellie find their forever home together. Humans know the deep yearning for love, a place to call home, and acceptance. Many of us have faced moments where we feel out of place or unseen as we long for the warmth of a place to call home and the reassurance of being wanted.

That’s simply what these two dogs wanted and needed. When we see a dog longing for a family, it stirs something within us because we know that same feeling of loneliness. When we bring them into our homes, we aren’t giving them a place of safety and love; we’re answering the same call we each have for a place to belong.

Their Story Began In a Shelter

Boone and Rellie’s story begins in a shelter, a place where they likely thought they’d only be passing through. But as days turned into months, it became their world. Despite countless hopeful introductions and hopeful faces, Boone and Rellie were repeatedly overlooked. Rellie had spent 310 days in the shelter waiting for her forever home when Boone came into her life. Together, they’d spend another 150 days waiting for someone to love them.

Yet during this time, something beautiful began to bloom between them: a friendship as strong as family. They were two pups meant to be together, offering each other a constant source of comfort and keeping each other company when loneliness took over.

With each passing day, Boone and Rellie became inseparable. They’d share meals, snuggle during afternoon naps, and find comfort in one another while shelter staff worked tirelessly to find them a home. Despite their undeniable bond, Boone and Rellie faced rejection after rejection. They were a little older and a little larger, and finding a family willing to take them both was no small task.

They Were Struggling To Find Boone a Home

Boone seemed like he would be a hopeless case because not only was he unwanted, he was deaf and in need of an understanding family willing to work with his disability.

“He was deaf and we were struggling to find him a home that would be patient and understanding with him,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.

But love has a way of showing up, sometimes right when you’re ready to give up hope. That was the case for these two special dogs. The day finally arrived when a family saw beyond the shelter walls and Boone’s disabilities and recognized what Boone and Rellie had to offer: a deep friendship and an already beautiful bond. They opened their hearts and homes to both dogs, keeping them together forever.

It’s Why They Do What They Do

“This is a reminder of why we do what we do. Why we show up every day for the homeless pets in our community. Why we never give up,” the shelter wrote on a Facebook post.

When Boone and Rellie walked out of the shelter for the last time, side by side as they had always been, they did so as a family. No more lonely nights, no more waiting—just a lifetime ahead of playing, exploring, and loving together.

A Prayer for God to Lead Us in Voting on Election Day - Your Daily Prayer - November 4

With all the controversy and issues surrounding American voting over the years, many individuals, including some Christians, may wonder if it even matters if they vote. Still, as Christians, we are called to vote in a way that honors, pleases, and reflects God’s ways.
