A dog tied to a fire hydrant was recently found in a neighborhood in Wisconsin. And she is now safe and sound at a local shelter.

The dog is a 6-year-old mixed breed named Baby Girl. She was found tied to a fire hydrant with a note from the dog’s previous owner, explaining why they could no longer care for her. A backpack filled with food, treats, and toys was also left next to the abandoned dog.

Baby Girl was quickly found and brought to the Wisconsin Humane Society. And the shelter posted about the dog on social media. They let people know that Baby Girl was doing great and also addressed the dog’s previous owner.

"First and foremost, we are so sorry you had to part with your best friend," the humane society wrote. "It's evident just how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and challenges of life. We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, pleading for someone to help her when you no longer could."

The Wisconsin Humane Society also wrote to the owner that "the bag you carefully packed with all of her favorite things," "the way you secured her leash so she wouldn't get hit by a car," and the way the person placed the dog "in the middle of a neighborhood where she'd be quickly found" are all signs that the pet's last owner really cared for the dog.

"While we'll never let fees be a barrier and we welcome anonymous surrenders, we see that you did what you thought was best for your beloved pup and we are grateful for your compassion," the humane society added. "Rest assured that she's safe. She's getting tons of attention from our team, and she's on track to find her next loving family very soon."
