Dog Saves Her Owner's Life By Sitting in the Middle of the Road

A heartwarming story of loyalty comes from the quiet woods of Washington state: a dog saves her owner’s life by sitting in the middle of the road.

When we think of rescue stories that involve our favorite four-footed companions, dogs like Lassie come to mind. We envision her jumping into action and racing about to save the day.

An 84-Year-Old Man Found Himself In a Life-Threatening Situation

But this sweet story is a little different. On a September fall morning, an 84-year-old man found himself in a life-threatening situation when he fell and injured his leg. He wasn’t sure what he could do to help himself.

Unable to move, the man knew the situation could be dangerous because he was too far from his cabin to call for help. As the hours passed in painful isolation on the deserted trail, his sweet rescue dog, Gita, kept him company. But she knew the situation was getting dire and decided it was time to leave her best friend to get him help.

Gita ran up the road and waited on the center line, hoping another human would come along. Gita aimed to lead the stranger back to her companion and get him the needed help. That someone happened to be Deputy Wright.

The Dog Wouldn't Get in the Truck

At first, he attempted to get her to jump into the truck. But she refused to budge. So, the Deputy decided to visit residences in the area to see if the dog on the road belonged to anyone. But he was out of luck because no one reported a missing dog.

Deputy Wright decided he had better go back and check on the dog to see if it was still on the road. Sure enough, Gita was now lying in the middle of the road, waiting for help.

This time, Gita didn’t waste any time. She took off from the road and expected Deputy Wright to follow. And sure enough, Gita led him to her best friend, who was still calling for help. Had Gita not gone for help, we can’t help but think how badly this story could've ended.

The Dog Saved Her Owner's Life

After the man was rescued, Deputy Wright stated, “We credit Gita for saving his life that day. The loyalty and heroism of our furry friends never cease to amaze us,” the office wrote.”

A Prayer for Transforming Worry into Trust - Your Daily Prayer - October 24

Worrying does nothing to benefit our lives in any way; it only takes away. It takes away the present moments and present joy you could experience, not to mention it takes away from a peaceful life.
