Animals are a wonderful part of God’s beautiful and awe-inspiring creation. They are yet another way in which the Lord has blessed our lives. Those cute, furry, four-legged beings add much joy and love to their owner’s life. They are also caring and loyal companions, even when it puts their life in danger, as one heroic dog in England did.

As everyone, and especially 43-year-old Kevin Record, knows, life is a precious thing. Kevin, who lives in Kent, England almost did not survive an April 17 apartment fire, according to the Daily Mail.

Kevin’s apartment was quickly engulfed in flames after the battery of his electronic scooter exploded. The overnight fire destroyed everything Kevin owned, but luckily, he was able to escape with his life. However, he did suffer “life-changing burns to the right side of his body,” according to the Kent Fire & Rescue Service.

Kevin was able to make it out alive thanks to the heroic actions of his 5-year-old American bully, Shogun. Sparks were flying from the scooter’s lithium battery when Shogun hopped on Kevin’s bed and alerted him to the terrifying situation, The Epoch Times reports.

Smoke and fire quickly filled Kevin’s apartment. He was eventually able to open a window. But before Kevin exited the apartment, he desperately searched for Shogun, calling out his name. Unfortunately, the smoke was too thick, and he was unable to find Shogun.

Kevin Is 'Devastated' By The Loss of His Brave 5-Year-old Pooch

While Kevin managed to survive, Shogun, according to authorities, did pass away.

Kevin is crushed by the loss of his trusty and heroic companion, Shogun.

'I'm absolutely devastated by what's happened, especially losing Shogun,” Kevin said. “He was everything to me and died saving my life. I can't explain the speed of the fire. I had never seen anything like it.”

Kevin’s sister, 39-year-old Gemma Servante, also praised that brave animal for saving her brother’s life.

"He is so lucky that he got out. If Shogun hadn't woken him up, if Kev had been asleep for just another 10 seconds it would have been very different,” she said. “This dog was a hero.”
