Demi Lovato Recovery: Singer Opens Up About How A Growing Relationship With God Has Helped
February 04, 2020

Recently, Demi Lovato’s recovery from substance abuse has been one of the top priorities in her life. Before her powerful performance at this year’s Grammy Awards where she sang her new song “Anyone,” Lovato sat down with Apple Music. She talked about her steps toward sobriety and the role the church played in this journey.
“I was not really a big church person, like even a month ago. I shied away from church for many years, because I didn’t feel welcome,” Lovato shared. “I just found a place out here in L.A. that accepts me for who I am. There’s no judgment. And that’s what I needed.”

Demi Lovato said that her manager, Scooter Braun, was one of the first people to encourage her to turn back to God. He asked her about going to church and invited her to a Bible study.
“He was like, ‘Hey do you wanna go to Bible study?’” said Lovato. “So, he took me there, and I just heard God clearer than I had heard Him in a long time.”

Last month, Lovato went to church with Braun. Justin and Hailey Bieber, who are both strong followers of Christ, were also at the church service with Lovato.
It is so great to see this talented artist put her faith back in God and turn to Him during this process of healing. He is the ultimate Healer! Since her near-fatal drug overdose back in July 2018, Lovato is now seeking to put her hope in what’s eternal, instead of the temporary things of this world.

“I tried to seek God through other experiences, whether that’s through other relationships or substances,” Lovato shares. “And it’s just like, I had to realize that the God that I’m seeking, the God that I love, and the God that I want to be my God is available 24/7, always at an arm’s length and constantly with me. I need to focus on myself and my relationship with myself and my relationship with God.”
