Hannah White and her mother, Kathleen Nelson, were very close. Unfortunately, in December of last year, her mother was admitted to the hospital with undiagnosed pneumonia and ended up taking a turn for the worse. That was when Delta stepped in and helped Hannah get to her for one last goodbye.
Hannah shared her experience on TikTok, and the story went viral, now up to over 10.3 million views. She began her story with, “Story time about how Delta helped me see my mom one day before she passed away.”

Her mom, Kathleen, was in the hospital for undiagnosed pneumonia, had surgery, and was doing well. But Hannah then received a call from her brother that her mom had gone into septic shock and the family needed to go to her immediately.
This was when Hannah got on the first flight that she could from Dallas, with a connection in Minneapolis. Sadly, they sat on the plane in Texas for over an hour due to mechanical issues. If you have ever had to wait on an airplane, you can understand Hannah’s stress.
“I knew if I didn’t make my connecting flight, I wouldn’t see my mom until the following day, and we weren’t sure she’d be alive,” she wrote. This was when she explained her situation to the flight attendant and asked if there was anything she could do to help her make her connecting flight. The flight attendant told her there wasn’t anything that could be done and that they had booked her for a flight the next day.
“As she explained this, I immediately started welling up with tears,” Hannah said. “She apologized and cried with me. I balled in my seat, knowing there was a possibility I wouldn’t be able to see my mom one last time.”
Things started to look promising once again when, an hour later, the flight attendant returned with the news that their pilot had contacted the other pilot and would wait for her so she could see her mom.

Not only that, but they bumped her up to first class so she could get off the airplane faster. The kindness didn’t end there. When the man sitting next to Hannah heard the announcement and realized they were talking about her, he pulled up a map of the airport to help her find her connecting gate. “He told me to run as fast as I could as soon as we landed,” she said.
And that is precisely what she did. “The whole time I was picturing my mom and how she would run across the country for me too,” she shared. Hannah made it to her flight and the staff happily welcomed her, saying, “We’ve been waiting for you, Hannah.”
“I sat in my seat and relaxed, knowing I was going to be able to see my mom tonight,” she wrote.
When she exited the plane, the flight attendants encouraged her and wished her luck. The pilot even shook her hand and told her he would pray for her.
What a fantastic thing for Delta to do for Hannah. A kindness that became an answer to prayer. Her mom did pass away the next day, but because of what Delta did, Hannah had 24 extra hours with her mom. She could say the goodbye she wanted and one last, “I love you!”
She ended her video with a photo of her and her mom when she was a child, saying, “Thank you, Delta. You gave me the gift of time. You have a forever customer in me.”
Prayers to Hannah and her family as they adjust to the loss of her mom.
