Fake Church Scams People With A Dangerous 'Miracle Cure'

Fake Church's Dangerous 'Miracle Cure' Exposed

If you've ever watched a loved one suffer, then you know the desperation it can create. You'd do just about anything to help. And there's a fake church preying upon such desperation with their claim to be able to cure just about any disease under the sun -- from cancer to autism -- with a “miracle mineral solution” (MMS). But this is more than just a scam to cheat people out of their money. This dangerous 'miracle cure' is actually tricking people into willingly ingesting poison! godupdates dangerous miracle cure bleach scam warning fb Credit: ABC News "20/20"

A Terrible Scam Exposed

The Genesis II Church of Health and Healing has been crediting MMS with curing illnesses like breast cancer, diabetes, HIV, and leukemia, just to name a few. In fact, the church's proclaimed "archbishop," Mark Grenon, advised that just one drop an hour would treat prostate cancer, brain cancer and even autism. He also markets the "miracle cure" as a "sacrament" offered for a "donation," in an attempt to skirt laws prohibiting the sale of such products. And when ABC News show “20/20” launched an investigation into the church's claims, their findings were terrifying. [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"] This scam goes far beyond cheating people out of their money. It's actually tricking people into taking poison. Expert testing uncovered this dangerous "miracle cure" as nothing more than bleach.
"MMS is an industrial chemical. It's an industrial bleach," said Dr. Paul Wang, the senior president of Autism Speaks. "The fact that anyone would suggest that you should give this to somebody is ridiculous. This is scary, dangerous stuff."

The Harsh Reality

It's awful to think someone could use the guise of a church to take advantage of those already facing such difficult times.
"Vulnerable, desperate people are always going to be targets for con men. There’s a lot of money to be made from them," said Dr. Steven Novella of the Yale School of Medicine.
